Eddy RPM heads and stock HP exhaust manifold

Hi

Is anyone using stock HP exhaust manifolds with his Edelbrock RPM cylinder heads?

On the driver's side the angled spark plug location is fine but on the passenger side it is a pita for plugs 6 & 8. Only very little clearance. I have just ruined my beautiful firecores!

How do you avoid melting the spark plug wire boots on plugs no. 6 & 8?   :scratchchin:

I would put Headers on it. I have no trouble with changing spark plugs or wires. Exhaust manifolds??? Your engine is exhailing through 2 straws, no good dude. Let that sucker breathe :Twocents: Johnny  :METAL:

Hi Al, can you post a few pics....i'd like to see how close the boots are to the ex manifolds if possible.

There are heat shields available and we can fix you up with some new plug boots.  ;)

I have got the TTi headers and exhaust system. However, I haven't installed them yet. Having no lift and having to rely on jack stands  ... well it's not evident for me.  :shruggy: And not being the youngest anymore doesn't make things easier.  :coolgleamA:

A little late I know, but they have a straight plug version of the head sold through Mopar.

I know others are using the angle plug with manifolds and they are making due with the right boot.  I just don't know what it is.  Is there a shorter plug available?

I have RPM heads with HP manifolds (1969) on mine and it works fine.

Found this by Andy F.:

" The angled plugs on the Edelbrock heads worked with the HP manifolds but I had to keep a very close eye on the #6 boot. I made a little heat shield for it and that usually worked but you have to check it all the time."

Sounds interesting. Is there any information about what kind of heat shield he uses and what it's like?

What brand of spark plug wires do you use, straight or bent boots?

With a 90* boot the heat shield pictured  below should provide ample heat protection.  :yesnod:

Are the Taylor Spark Plug Boot Heat Shield Protectors better than these?

Those look just like the ones we carry at Firecore but are more expensive. The Firecore shields are $6 each instead of 2 for $20.  ;)

It appears that you need 2 new boots and 2 heatshields correct ?

Neal, i just use wire seperators on mine and have had no issues. You could allways use the factory wire loom to keep the wires off the heads if they're touching. The surface temp on the cylinder head is much lower than on the ex manifold so it's not a big issue, inmo.

They don't burn but seems they start carbon tracking there, touching bracket steel. (Sorry I don't mean to hijack)

I have Edey heads RPM heads and the Hp will work except I think it was the drivers side- not enough clearance for angleded spark plugs- the only headfers that will work are TTI- I was told by Edeelbrock that both Headman & TTI headers will work- guess what NOT !!!!!  :brickwall:

The only mods I had to do with the TTI headers was the linkage for my 727 trans - which wa s minor-TTI directions are on the Nats Ass
