Were there ever any 68-70 Charger police cars?

A lot of police departments use Chargers today. I know back in the 70's they used to use Fury's, but I was just wondering
if any police departments used 68-70 Chargers as their pursuit vehicles.

No. Two doors weren't used back then, even as pursuit vehicles. There were a bunch of 4 door mopars used though.

Never once didn't start, never stranded me, never once did not take me where I needed to go. Daily driver of 4+ years.

Currently undergoing 413/727 swap after I finally beat the 318 til it lost a headgasket. The kicker is the 318 still cranks and runs like nothing is wrong. I love my ca

well technically yes, a good friend of mine's father was a cop who ordered a 70 r/t charger as a cop car.

Indiana State Police have used 2 door MOPARS during this time period.......I have had several 1964 2dr Ply Savoys State Police Units that were well used, a friend had a 70 2dr Polara 440 Pursuit undercover unit issued to him. I'm sure there are many other 2dr Police Units........... including some Chargers.... :2thumbs:

That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

Incidentally, great question!~

There is/was a 68 R/T for sale in Vancouver and the guy claims it was a cop car in Mexico! He said it had some of the wiring still in it or something along that line. I think he wanted $40K(?) for it.

spyder

Sterling Heights , Michigan had '69 Charger R/T & '71 demon 340 undercover cars . I never saw the Charger in person , however , I did see the Demon .
It was GA4 , black bench , 4-spd , A/C , no stripe/scoops , black wheels w/hubcaps .

I've heard of that one. The last owner of my Charger was considering buying it but didn't.

Mopar Collectors guide did a story on a 70 or 71 Challenger R/T that was used undercover and I know of a 70 Charger that is being restored that was a Dallas, TX cop car. It was also an undercover.

If you've noticed, it still stands that no, between 68-70 no regional police force or highway patrol used Chargers as standard issue cruisers or interceptors or pursuit units, as they do the current 4door Chargers. The oddball custom was cool, but the other 2door cars so far are not from 68-70. I point this out cuz I'd love to see more pics like that custom 70.

C'mon guys! Undercover? My ex-roommate has a previously "undercover" KIA. You really want to lump Mopars into a group like that?

Yeah, I know about the Javenlins, buddy of mine has got 5, 3 ex ALHP, all at varying stages of restoration. I must say I'm quite unfond of them, but AMC never did it for me anyways. To each his own.

Great topic. Here's some very good material on Mopar cop cars.

No Chargers, 1st or 2nd gen. What matters isn't stories but pictures! Just like unicorns.

Undercover is still a cop car. I used to have a few pics of the car, not sure where they are now as it's been about 10 years. The charger I knew of still had blue and red lights behind the grille along with a siren. The guy bought ut at a police auction in Dallas in the late 80's. They tore the car down for resto and it has been sitting ever since. Ut was maroon with black top and interior.

Maybe a few 2-door Belvederes were slipped in by dealers needing to move overstock, or the factory had some left around that a well budgeted department took off their hands. :shruggy:

Need pictures. :popcrn:
