I picked up a used 73 440 this winter, it had been in a couple of demos over the years I was told. I rebuilt, got it
put in the car this past weekend. All seems fine except that the balancer seems to be shaking, vibrating or whatever
you want to call it front to back. I took it off, put it back on still does it. Everything looks good. The crank pulley isn't
moving so does that mean that the outer ring is a little off? If I need a new one what years can I Get one off of?
This is a cast crank motor.

Thanks

Is there a key on the crank to hold the balancer in position, or am I not reading the question right?

Professional Products has a balancer that is for internally balanced.  You add weights for ext bal.  don't use old balancer.  Rubber goes bad.

The center hub of the balancer is where the offset weight is, if the outer ring spins on the center hub it won't affect the balance but the timing mark will be off.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.
