Hello everyone,
I work for ididit inc. and we are prototyping steering columns for the b body's. Im kinda stuck on the floor mounts for these columns... There is a split with the shape of these and i cant tell where..what year the change happen. We will be doing Tilt columns for 62-70. The floor mount seems to have changed in either 65 or 66 I think the early one had 3 bolts that held it to the floor and the latter had 4 bolts. I have several steering columns here but not all have the floor mount still attached. If anyone could help by posting pictures it would be a big help.

Here is mine - early model 68 (build date Sept 67) with a 4 bolt mount.

Fantastic thanks OttawaCharger...
Do you know what years the bracket was the same on? Im thinking 1967-1970?

What's the wire at the lower column bearing?

Tilar

Probably the neutral safety and reverse light switch on a column shift.

back up light switch.. according to the wiring diagram...

does any one know if the pictured floor mount goes to the 76 model year??

lisiecki1

looks similar to my 73 but I don't want to confirm without visually inspecting it first....I'll post a picture tonight.

I'm afraid that I don't know which years used this particular setup.  :scratchchin:
But this is a great group and I'm sure that the answer will be found in short order.  :2thumbs:

didn't get time for a picture last night, but I looked at the assembly and it's 3 bolts to the firewall on my 73.

Hmm, i would have expected 4 bolts and shaped like the one above.
Does anyone have a 1976 column laying around that could take a picture or have a 1976 manual that shows a picture of the mount or firewall?

To confuse the issue further, the Mopar Parts Catalog shows '68-'70 as being the same but the '71 has a different part number and all call for only 3 bolts. The '68-'70 part number is 2925397 so the part wasn't used prior to '68.

'62-'64 is P/N 2265693 and calls for 4 bolts; I assume at least '65 is the same.

Any old hands still call this a "Duffy Plate"?
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

scottdidit

I dont need more confusion :brickwall: this is what i have been able to find... can anyone verify these

OK the collapsible column started with 67 year and a 4 bolt mount. This seems to have changed by 71 to a three bolt mount. Can anyone get a picture or some kinda proof of the 1970??

Can anyone tell me what the big gasket is in the blue picture? is that related to the column or could that be for the heater???

scottdidit

So i have this picture of a 1973 column. Can anyone verify this? this has the newer 3 bolt mount. I think it started in 71 and went thru at least 74.. maybe beyond?

show me the end of the shaft that couples into the steering gearbox.

73 and 74, yes

yes but on diff disposition between 73 and 74. 74s got the rag joint just leaving the firewall, then another shaft section up to coupler directly attached to box

also 74 firewall bracket is different from earliers.

74 underdash column bracket is smaller and use just two attaching points.

I just got a 73 column in my hand and it has the 3 bolt mount Just like the E body. I need to find the first year for that mount. I know the 70 used the 4 bolt... anyone got a picture of a 1971 Charger column? or at least the firewall hole??? PLEASE???

RD

71 used the same 3 bolt, but with larger holes (rusty picture from my 71 charger and painted from a 72 b body)... the 73/74's used a slotted type of mounting hole (last picture shows a mount taken from my 73 roadrunner, build date January 73).
