I have a project car that has a 318 but came with a 340 magnum. I am wanting to put a new engine in it. Some one once told me you can just use a 360 engine as it was the same as a 340 only differnet heads. Is this true? I ran across a link on this sight that showed the dino test on about ten differnt 360 setups and may use one of them if the chasis will hold the 360.

318, 340 and 360 are the same block. Swapping them should be no problem. Bore Stroke are different for each, Small Block heads will bolt on any of them.

340 is a steel crank, 360 is a cast crank. Crank it self is no big deal, but the way they are blanced is! 360 has a weight on the converter or flywheel, 340 does not! Make sue you use the correct converter or fly wheel with the 360. Other wise you will be in Mopar Hell.

Oil pan is not the same either, will need a pan for the 360 or you will have oil pouring out.

the left engine mount is diufferent between the 318 & the 340 / 360 but your 340 mount will work fine

Thanks Chryco Psycho or the info about the motor mount. What is involve in changing the left Mount? Does it just bolt in or is it require cutting and welding?

Chryco Psycho

no the bolt on mount for the engine has to be the 340 /360 mount
