As the title says, how is it done? Is there a trick? Oh, and the fuel tank is still in the car.

Other than un-hooking all the hoses, wire and ground strap you have to tap the lock ring loose. I use an old screwdriver and a hammer to tap it.

But seriously folks,

as stated, you have only to disconnect everything and rotate the lock ring out of the dogs. This can be challenging if there is a lot of sealer on the tank, or undercoating, or road grime. I prefer to use a brass punch to avoid any chance for sparks, though that may just be my OCD showing.

I've never tried to do this in the car, but other threads have said it can be done.

Dan in 1 of my Chargers I went through the fuel system. I used a big screwdriver and hammer to slowly and steady move the lock ring a few degrees by hitting on the little cam. This ring holds the FSU in place on the tank. Reverse order to reinstall the unit. It's an easy and quick job, even I performed this job ((I am blind, have two left hands and I wear speedos... :D) , so you'll definitely can do it !!! :slap: :scratchchin: :shruggy:

Yes, I do know of that method of removal. Thanks all for your opinions. I don't see any tool marks on the lock ring so maybe it has never been removed. It will be a little later today.  :2thumbs:

No, you are not blind,  I don't know about the two left hands (Chuck was helping you so maybe...) and yes, I saw the black speedos.... :errr:

ALLWAYS HAVE USED a long screwdriver and a hammer... never got a problem. Sure the tool can be handly and easier, but won't spend my small US$ quote plus shipping on that tool and I don't think locally will be available
