My Rant, kinda long.

So ever since i have had the Coronet, a neighbor of mine and i have become friends, turns out he has a 66 Mustang GT with a mildy built 351, headers, 650 Carter, 4 speed car.

I never noticed it before as he hardly ever drives it. But being a fellow hot rodder we got to talking, he help me with diagnosing that weird noise i had in the Coronet and i helped him with stuff he didnt know about cars etc.

I took him for a ride in the Coronet, my "Alderwood Cruising Loop" 15 mile square around Lynnwood. Didnt speed or anything, i did let the throttle loose once and let the smoke out of the tires once.

SO, the other day, he had just finished putting new header gaskets and shocks on it, i was walking the dogs around and stopped to see if he wanted to go on a cruise on Sat.

He says sure, just finished my car, wanna go for a ride? Sure why not. So, we go out cruise through the neighbor hood, and heads to the freeway.

He turns a corner to the on ramp and nails it, rear end slides, yeah, thats cool, not impressed, the car is light and its a 4 speed.

We get on the freeway, now, mind you this is at 5 in the afternoon. He friggen speeds up to 110mph, i am thinking "Dude, your a idiot" 110mph on the freeway at 5" Now i am not a pansy or anything, i took my Satellite to 140, and do crazy things too, but with no one in the car, and not on a crowded freeway.

"I am sure your car can go fast, but i dont need to be in the passenger seat on the freeway at 5 in the afternoon to see it. I wouldnt drive that fast, especially with someone else in the car at that time of day.. TO me that was just irrisponsible, and i just lost a ton of respect for him

Any one else had this happen,

moparstuart

Maybe its a mustang thing , my neighbor two doors down used to do that stuff( with a really rough 71 mach 1 ) .   He would also get it out on the street and sit and rev it up for like 20 minute . Then drive it really slow past my house and around the culdesac . Revving it the whole time .  Not impressed dude stop it . That was when i just had the 69 runner and shelby charger at home . Then when i brought the birdible home he started doing it twice as often .    LOL   He finally sold it when his father in law died and left them a brand new GT convertible .  At least he only goes driving in it and doesnt rev it up out front .   :rotz: :rotz: :rotz:

Not too much around here. If someone goes for a ride with me ill usually have fun on a straight away and maybe smoke the tires a bit. I don't like driving fast on the highway unless its dead straight and empty...usually ill nail the throttle for some quick fun and back off and cruise it the rest of the way.

When I'm in a buddies car I can usually expect to go sideways once or twice. I don't mind it as they aren't wreckless about it (usually its a nice gentle drift) while other friends I am just can't drive and I'm constantly saying...take it easy were not in a rush.

Yeah , have noticed some Mustang drivers do odd stuff, not as bad as some Chevy drivers though.  Camaro guys are funny.  They think they have the baddest car around most of the time.

I pulled up at NAPA the other day, this guy with his girl friend were standing by his early 90s Camaro, nice paint, black and gold.  He is standing there looking all studly for his girl, i turn the corner and park, i hear the girl say oh nice car.   The dude says shut up lets go.  And of course he leaves with a big old engine redline and smokes the tires.

An old teacher of mine has '70 440 'Cuda. He took me for a ride in it and he showed what it could do but it was way less balls out as this Mustang guy you guy's speak of. It was only a 5 minute ride and he stopped on this nice straight piece of road and then open it up just to show me the power it has. He didn't stay in it for long but it was pretty cool. I'm all up for going fast but I'm one of those guys who has to be the one driving if we're going fast.

What do those paddle like symbols on the street mean?  Is that something to do with the bus parking?

They indicate where the bodies of the prius drivers lay after SFRT flexes his muscle  :smilielol:

Those "paddle" pavement signs might be an announcement (HAH) that the driver is in a photo zone, where cameras are set up to catch speeders. Maybe. :shruggy:

Which, if they are, means SFRT is in deep trouble.

Yes they don't make any sense (if that's what they symbolize) but then nothing does in California.

Yes, I've been there...And done that too....I used to run with the 5.0 mustank croud and was just as much of an ass as the usual 5.0 idiot with a low 6 sec. 1/8th mile car could be....I did ALOT of street racing and the occasional burnout...

Now, Being I got back to my roots(Mopar), the above mentioned seem to bother me a little more now than back then for some reason...I have this neighbor that has (Yep! You guessed it!) a 5.0 liter mustang....He sees me pull out ever Sat. night going to cruise night and I guess that gets him in the mood sometimes....He seems to work on alot of junk around his house as well..
Never fails, he has to get out in the road in that thing and launch it about 50 times ever Sat. afternoon...Then, there's the ritual "Starting of the engines in all the junk", and revving the sh*t out of 'em like THATS gonna make it run better??

Well, this one perticular Sat. I had about had enough..I decided to fire up the 'ol 505 In the Dart and "Practice" my launches as well...

It wasn't too long after that with the open headers and 11.0:1 Compression, he kindly gave up with that damn Mustang....

I worked at a factory several years ago and I swear that most of the people I were stuck working with had DUIs and no drivers license. These losers were always bumming rides and would offer no gas money in return for hauling them to work. They always seemed to have money to go out drinking on, but never any gas money. So, I started driving them to work like the Mustang guy mentioned in the first post. Coincidentally, I drove a 2001 Mustang GT at the time, and I would try to bury the speedometer every chance I got. I scared the hell out of my passengers to the point where they stopped hitting me up for rides. I know that it wasn't the safest or the smartest thing to do, but it got the job done. Here is the funny part: when one of them commented on my driving, my response was "Those are mighty strong words, coming from the guy who chose to operate a vehicle while completely intoxicated. If I hear another peep outta ya, it will be a long walk back home."

HAHA thats funny, now i would probably do the same thing there, just so they would quit asking.

The cops wave at you!  That's hillarious.  Actually, sounds like they have a sense of humor and some common sense to know who is just haveing some good ol' fashion fun, and who is actually dangerous.

I'm not a big fan of someone driving fast with me in the car either and I've had it done several times.  I just keep repeating, woah, slow it down.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.
