:shruggy: Several years ago I bought a bare bones body 74 Charger from a guy that had two Chargers. He wouldn't sell the other which was complete car. Told me the cars were police interceptors and I said to myself " oh brother have I heard that before". Well he passed away - bless his soul - and I stopped by not knowing and his son sold the car to me - someone had broken all the glass out stole the power bulge hood and intake carb - but otherwise complete. No titles so started doing research both cars built 1/74 two ser. # apart UNBELIEVABLE. No keys to second Charger so removed back seat to get trunk open and what do I find - A big Motorola radio mount plate bolted to trunk floor. WTF! Called DMV to try and find last registered owner and after giving them VIN #'s am told cars have never been registered and don't exist. Have to do this and that to try to get titles but will eventually work out. Both cars are 440 U codes with only 64K miles. Could it be? WTF!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know how to decode Order Code from fender tags? :brickwall:

Supposedly there were just over 200 cars, (208 I think), U code 440 Rally Chargers built in 74.  Good find.

If they have never been titled aren't they technically new cars when they finally get titled?  If so they would be two of the oldest new cars on the road.

is there a lic plate on the car?

Some states, like PA for example, drop vehicles from their database after 5 years of inactivity. So unless you have the title,
the car will not exist according to the DMV, unless it is on a list of stolen vehicles, which it apparently
stays on forever.

You can always just use a title service to get another title in your name.

No license plates or inspection stickers. Have bill of sales from the person I bought them from. DMV is going to issue temporary titles to me for 1 year - then titles will become permanent. Already checked for stolen on nationwide level. Always wondered what happened to cars that weren't sold from the dealerships when the new models came out - maybe these were leftovers.
