Opinions on Reconditioned Lincoln Electric Welder

Stopped at Home Depot to pick up some fasteners & spotted a reconditioned Lincoln Electric, 140 HD Weld Pak for $393.00 with the regular price at $524.00. I just poked around on a google search & the price seems like it's a decent deal, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this welder new or reconditioned?

It's a 120v set up that includes the hoses & gauges for gas, but it's also a flux core wire feed. I already have an auto darkening helmet, gloves, but would just rent tanks locally. I have no desire to get into a 220v set up & don't plan on using it for any major fabrication. The biggest thing I'd probably try to build is a rotisserie.

Home Depot has a 30 day return policy & the welder has a 3 year warranty from Lincoln Electric.

Any input would be appreciated, I may go back in the morning to get it.

That sounds like good price but I've bought my welder (made by Hobart) online for around $450 or so shipped. I prefer Hobart/Miller brand

Flux core means that it uses flux core wire if you have no gas kit.  Add the kit and change the wire spool and you are welding with gas!!
Overall seems like a fair deal.  Only thing you are missing is a cart.  I have a Hobart but learned to weld on a Lincoln, couldn't tell the difference.  One thing I found is that welding sheet metal is a lot different than welding thick metal (1/4 inch). If you haven't done it, a little practice will show you what's going on.

A friend of mine is a welder by trade he loves them.
68 Charger, slowly in the works, 451 c.i. approx. 535 hp @ the flywheel, so far best time in the 1/4
11.21 @ 119 mph, full exhaust, stock suspension, 4:10s @ 3640 pounds.

That wuold be a great little welder for body work and small stuff around the house.  Lincoln is popular so getting consumables will be very easy. The reconditioned deal is the only thing that bothers me. You are buying someone elses bad unit thats been fixed. Or has it been fixed? Maybe it would be fine and provide lots of years of service for you?!

The reconditioning could be due to anything from a missing knob to a major part, but who knows? It still has a warranty. I went back at lunchtime & they still have it, but I looked inside the box this time since it's open & found that some of the accessories that are supposed to be with it are missing. Two things I noticed were a spool of wire, & the tips, about $20 to $25 worth. Still thinking it over & may ask if they can replace what's missing with off the shelf items.

A welder is not what you need to cut that roof of your Charger, spend the money on grinding disc's Bob!!   :icon_smile_big:

The difference in price of $131 become closer to $100 when you add the wire & tips.   Assuming the warranty is equal to that of a new unit, saving $100 seems like a good plan.  No warranty, toss over the extra $100 & get a new one.

I bought a 120 Volt job from Harbor Frieght almost 30 years ago for small general use items... uses both gas and flux-core... A lot of wire has been fed through this unit... I've pretty much worn out the whip, but it's still going strong. Granted, it's not as nice as a Lincoln, less amps and possibly a shorter duty cycle... but it works, and didn't cost me much of anything either.

Tractor Supply now has a Hobart 140 on sale for $439.00 & it's new, not reconditioned. Looks like a better deal than the Lincoln & something that my tax refund will pay for.  :coolgleamA:
