i am wanting to buy a kit, but it would be cheaper to buy them separate and just rekey the locks to match the ignition key.

any ideas?

Yes. Any local locksmith should be able to replace the pins in thetumblers to match. Another alternative, since so many other people have the keys to your car anyhow, is to just pop off the tumbler keeper and dump the pins and springs out. Yes, this means any Chrysler key will now open the lock, but who is gonna know?

WANT TO BUY:
Looking for a CD by  'The Sub-Mersians'  entitled "Raw Love Songs From My Garage To Your Bedroom"

Also, any of the various surf-revival compilation albums this band has contributed to.
Thank you,    Kenny

It was cheaper for me to buy a matched lock and ignition set on ebay than pay the darn locksmiths around here...they wanted 40.00 + for each door, and that was me handing them the doorlocks on there counter!   :flame: (Just put all new in they work so smoooooth!)

That won't work, either. You will notice that there are different length pins and combinations of pins in  the holes. You would need dozens of donor locksets to get enough variety of pins to key-match one pair of doorlocks. Still another option is to take a chunk of brazing rod and turn it down to hand-make pins for your own, one-of-a-kind custom keyset. :naughty: But surely NO ONE on this board would do something like that to their Charger... right?..

If you start with an uncut key, and have no fitted key from which to duplicate a cut, a functional key can be cut by hand via a process known as "impressioning". It isn't terribly dfficult, but it is very time-consuming.

I meant just file all the pins to the same size, flat.  :shruggy: (I got ignition and door lock set for 40.00 shipped on ebay for my 70.)

Charger RT

I have a film canister I keep pins from locks in. I was able to recode a trunk lock for my 68 the original was hammered and I had the key for the glove box and console. I keep things like that around
