Alright guys - Scored a Carter carb the other day - Carter 9636 --- It is an electric Choke 625cfm model...

I believe this is an AVS style carb - it needs a rebuilt just for my piece of mind - Can I just use a rebuild kit from any old edelbrock carb ?    :shruggy:
1968 Dodge Charger - 6.1L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.55 Sure Grip

2013 Dodge Challenger R/T - 5.7L Hemi / 6-speed / 3.73 Limited Slip

1964 Dodge Polara 500 - 440 / 4-speed / 3.91 Sure Grip

1973 Dodge Challenger Rallye - 340 / A-518 / 3.23 Sure Grip

Rayzor

The AVS is different then the edelbrock clone of the AFB carter. I dont think they will swap over. But I have been wrong before.

The Edelbrock Thunder series is a clone of the AVS.

so does anyone know for sure what (if any) edelbrock rebuild kit will  fit this carb ?

I used an AFB aftermarket kit in an Eddy AFB clone with no ill effects.  I have no experience with their AVS carbs or kits but as far as I know they are exact duplicates EXCEPT that the Eddy AVS uses the AFB style two step rod.  Edelbrock also uses a system of rod and jet sizing that allows for greater choice than Carter orginally tooled up for if my memory serves.  As far as gaskets and other small rebuild parts, my experience was that the Carter and Eddy AFB were the same.  I can't see them doing it any differently for the AVS.   :shruggy:

Well I have highlighted my lack of knowledge on carbs    haha    I did some research on the topic and realized that the 9636 Carb is an AFB carb - not an AVS...     so I will assume any Edelbrock service kit will work just fine...    It is also an EGR capable carb....     not sure what the hell that means but It is a 625cfm carb - going to put it on my 383 for the time being
