I am not happy with eBay at the moment.  I sold a fuel cell on there for $235 and they socked me a 8%!  Not worth it anymore in my opinion.  I feel gouged from every angle lately.

I quit messing with ebay selling when they bought paypal....now they charge you to place the add, charge a final value fee when you sell it, and then hit you with a paypal fee for accepting money from your buyer....15 hands in the cookie jar....

Try Moparts.com for selling & buying. Ads are free & there are a lot of buyers browsing on there so there is a decent chance of selling. I've sold way more on there than ebay over the years as well as buy.

You can't be serious? Moparts is the land of dreamers and tire kickers who want your stuff for nothing and then act like they are doing you a favor when they want to buy it. Not to mention poor exposure, and very few serious buyers. If you actually want to sell your items and get paid promptly There's Ebay....Then there's everybody else. If you want to hang on to them and play email tag and send dozens of pics to non buyers there's Moparts and the other non auction sites.

Last thing I sold, I added a note that a 6% fee would be added if they used paypal and the preferred method of payment was cash in person or a money order or check that would have to clear the bank before it was shipped.

I use to do that too....if someone reports you ebay can close your account because it's against their rules.

Passing the fee on is not against eBay rules, it is against the credit card company rules and eBay enforces it. It is called surcharging.

There is a way around with out saying Money Order stright out  . I did find at one point afew months back they said in one area of there site that you couldn't say Money Order but yet on another part of there site they also said you could accept it so they basiclly counterdict them selfs with that with there own words  and rules. They said you couldn't say the word "Money Order" though but they didn't say as I know of of saying it in another fashion.

right on . i dont like EBAY half as much as i used to . but thats where the $ is . hopefully someday GOOGLE will start up their rumored auction site but till then ill pay the fees on EBAY its faster and easier than dealing with all of the BS as mentioned above . as i said before you can deal with a handful of people here and there like selling at swapmeets and listing on web boards but as for now EBAY has the most exposier and easiest search for a listing RASING JUNK is JUNK for doing a search and CL sucks almost just as bad .

There's no perfect world right now.     I long for the way Ebay was ten years ago, which was fantastic by comparison.    

You might think Ebays fees are high... well yes they are.   Pay to list, pay final value fee when it sells.  Then pay to collect your money.    Yes, it's a racket.    Yes, they have you by the balls.   Yes they are continuing to increase overall fees.   Compared to Amazon, it's still lower.  It costs me a whopping 18% to sell on Amazon.    Amazon is the model that Ebay is now chasing.   Right now, I'm not happy with either.

Craigslist is free, but you have the yahoos to deal with.

No, you can say you accept Money Orders right in the ad but BUT you can't say it straight out though like that, so think about it bud  . I see it all the time on there now from some sellers.

I agree.  I used to sell a quite a few parts on ebay years ago.  Not as much anymore, and less now that I am getting pounded with fees.

Ebay has really gravitated towards the Amazon model of a catalog of new merchandise, and away from their original auction format.    I am sure I am not the only small seller is not happy with how things have gone.

I don't think anybody is happy with the way Ebay has gone. But it's still the best "game in town" so to speak for selling parts. And yes the fees are excessive.

My biggest problem with Ebay of late, besides their aforementioned fees, is that it seems to be full of scammers and con artists. The sad thing is, even when you report having been ripped off, you still have very little recourse.
I got burned a few years back when I bought a car stereo. To make a long story short, I got the credit card company to step up and refund my money, since Ebay did absolutely nothing to help me. I found out that the guy who scammed me had a long history of scamming people, would get kicked off Ebay then re-appear again under a different screen name. For all I know, he is probably still on there scamming people under various aliases.
