head gasket question

Hi

I'm replacing my old 906 heads with Eddy RPM heads. When I took off the heads I noticed that the head gaskets are blue with markings "P and a hammer". The cylinder head surface is also blue so far so good as I won't reuse them. However ... the engine block surface is also blue from the gasket color. Tried to clean it with lacquer thinner but the color remains. I intend to clean the block surface to the max but if I can't get rid of the blue color will it affect the new head gaskets (Fel-pro permatorque) or shouldn't I worry? Or what should I do? By the way, the engine is in the car.

Your insights will be greatly appreciated.  :2thumbs:

Get a Scotchbrite pad, Green or Maroon, and try re-cleaning the surface with the thinners on the pad.
Just use your flat hand, and go lightly, it should remove the Majority of what you are seeing.
Then,
Just install the F.P. gaskets as per normal and don't worry.
As long as it's FLAT, no crud stuck anywhere, it'll seal Fine.

I use a anglehead die grinder with a scotchbrite pad. Twenty bucks at harbor freight .. Really handy for cleaning old gaskets and crude.  Clean and oil the cylinders when done.
