When advancing the timing to, lets say 34 deg @3k rpms, how can you tell what it is when it's off the scale?

either install a timing tape on the balancer or get a timing light with built in advance and retard capabilities....      if you're good at math you can figure out where 34* is from the "0" mark and mark it for reference.

I don't know how you'd find it but didn't Chryco have a post in a related thread one time that he gave the exact distance from the timing mark to 36 degrees?

Yep, i believe the measurement was 2 3/4 inches....but don't quote me on that.  ;)

Timing tape or a dialback light is the easiest way to do it.  :2thumbs:

You know I've just never had good luck with timing tape.  Even trying to glue it on  with various substances hasn't worked.  Now the dial back light...  :2thumbs:

:iagree: completely.  I have NEVER had good luck with tapes. I always blamed it on the cold winters of the North. I haven't used a tape in more than 15 years now...

I LOVE my time adjust timing light..  :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

Maybe a silly question, but which way has the timing tape to be put on the balancer?  :scratchchin:
TDC to 60 degrees towards the left from the timing mark, or towards the right (when viewed from the front of the engine)?
