I am wondering why there is a heat shield only on the passenger side on the gas tank?

Probably for factory single exhaust pipe...single tailpipe would be hotter than duals.  :scratchchin:

That aint no heat shield.
This is what it is.
Bracket fuel tank side restraint charger PN 3404697.
From the factory parts book can be located at 14-86-27
One wasnt needed on the other side of the tank as the filler will stop it moving that way.

Very good, I had no idea what this was for.  It isn't on my dad's R/T.

My 70 R/T didn't have one either but it could have been removed earlier in its life - for what ever reason.
