Hi, does somebody knows if the replacement products coming out to market are ready for 134 Gas ?

I'm talking specifically about the four seasons dryer PN 33259

Rock Auto has them in $18... All rest of manufacturers has them in $30 average... Classic offer replacements of these in $50

Nacho-RT74

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES... they assure me are the same of the pic...

now why pay around $50 at Classic autoair for a regular aftermarket replacement part if you can get allmost 3 of those from original manufacturer, original OEM look, ready to R134a, paying the same!!!!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :boogie: :boogie:

Thanks FLG!!! thats for emergency, you are my back up! LOL

I'm waiting for another ebay auction for another part, and if I win, will get 2 of these dryers... If I don't win... will be getting the 2 dryers and the part I'm watching  ;)

ALLMOST READY TO HAVE EVERYTHING to ship to Vzla ( if everything goes fine and I don't need suddenly another part )

Nacho-RT74

ok, just for your records, some info I have got from service customers at several autoparts ( Rockauto, Clearlyauto ) since they contacted to FourSeasons tech department

DRYER:

Newer REPLACEMENT parts are being already made to R134a refrigerant so as stated NO NEED TO PAY $50 for a new dryer from Classic Auto Air when you can get it in $20 from regular parts stores, and they are OEM.

Fourseason dryers begining by number 33xxx are ready to R134a for a while beigning by 34xxx are to R12

EXPANSION VALVE:

Allmost same than above... PN 38844  Fourseason Expansion Valves ( replacement for our cars unless some difference for whatever reason ) are already calibrated to R134a refrigerant... they are rated on $25 for a while Classic Auto Air has them in $49

BTW they have wrong the 74 expansion valve listed if you ask me, so I have to choose what 73 lists for

just to let you know that mostly of the times we search on wrong places, and spend double of the price for mostly sure same parts.

Hey Nacho,

Are the part numbers you posted applicable to 2nd generation chargers?  I'm asking because that's what I have and I have not picked up a new expansion valve yet.  BTW, I'm switching to R134 so I want my new expansion valve (and dryer) to work with that gas.

Also, is it your understanding that when you convert your system from R12 to R134 that you only charge to 70% of what it originally took for the R12 system?

Nacho-RT74

first, about the undertanding about the conversion

yes... is what Classic Auto Air advices... 70 to 80% of gas charge, remove EPR and install a thermostat to cut the compressor power when gass is allmost to freeze.

The EPR function is cut or regulate the gas flow/pressure going to evaporator to save from gas freezing on system ( calibrated with R12 specs ), but being EPR drives gas pressure rated for R12 specs and not temperature and you load the R134 at less pressure, the EPR valve will get a missread, being the gas freezing temp not anymore in direct relation with the actual pressure of new gas. A thermostat, what is not more than simply an electricar sensor/cut switch wrapped to evaporator lines close to firewall. The clutch power goes through this thermostat and at a rated temp, the sensor will cut the power to compressor.

( this is the answer I got from CAA asking about the conversion and requirements... That's the good to ask about EVERYTHING from dealers... learn )

Note: I have run my car with R134 and still EPR and NEVER, EVER GOT A PROBLEM!. Damn those days were cold :D ! it was funny get ice attached to rear line of compressor... like snow!

BTW also DID RUN PERFECT WITH MY FACTORY EXPANSION VALVE... replaced ( went bad ) couple of years ago for a NOS "Mopar" unit found locally, and things changed to worst... maybe expansion valve bulb charge said bye bye being stored.

Now about PNs I provided...

Dryer PN, no, those are 3rd gens PNs, but making the propper search for your year, will find several options from any regular dealer ( factory or dealer mounted ) and now you can decode the gas aplication by the PN code 33xxx or 34xxx based at least on Four Seasons products ( prices are more less the same, so, FORGETT about CAA prices ).

Expansion Valve... I think is the same PN for your car... DON'T TRUST COMPLETELLY ON DEALERS APPLICATIONs LIST!!!... check check check. For my 74 is listed a WRONG ( at lest on my car ) expansion valve. Made an earlier year search and found my correct PN ( pic told me what it is the actual right one my car has since I make teh replacement job by myself )

at the end what I mean... making searchs and asking, will save money. No need to run to the "popular" solution.
