Im finishing up the body on my 69 Charger R/T, and the previous owner put a 400 out of a 73 Charger under the hood before he sold it to me. Ive been planning on selling it and finding a 440. But Im starting to read up on the 451 stroker kit for the 400 and I need some advice. The 400 is a stronger block than the 440, and 440source has a pretty sweet stroker kit. But what would you recommend? (I want it to be streetable on regular gas)
THanks!

More choices for the 440 . Pistons, intakes, distributors, stroker kits.

400"s fit easier, not as tall and wide.

If your 400  runs well ,you probably have a no cost good block to start with, not someone elses problems.

I went with the 440 so I can have those cool 440 MAGNUM emblems on the hood.

I'd recommend the 471 stroker, versus the 451. Lots of threads on this site and others that can be searched.

I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend, I've seen a few 440s on my local Craigslist going for $400 to $600. The 400 you already have came with the car so thats kinda like free.  :2thumbs:

Since you already have the 400 I say stroke it and go.  The costs to build is nearly the same and there is something really cool about bragging about your 73 smog motor after it dusted somebody.

If the budget allows go for at least a 452 stroker. You save a few pounds with the 400 so thats a bonus.

Are those $899 BB Aluminum heads from 440Source.com the way to go? Seems to me you cant beat the price on a set of aluminum heads! Where's a good place to find a stroker kit for that 400?
Thanks everyone!
