Replaced the tires on the Daytona last night

I replaced the tires on the Daytona last night. WHAT a difference in ride. So much smoother, and
that's just down the driveway... I like the look of the polyglas GT's, but man, those Goodyear
radials are so much better. I get the gears changed out and the driveshaft balance, she'll be even
BETTER. I'll be driving that car all over the place.......... Took me some diggin' to get all four. Goodyear's on national back-order with those 255 GT II's

There is no comparing a set of bias-ply tires to some radial meats like that.  Besides a smoother ride, you don't get the random involuntary lane changes on the interstate...

:scared:

Looks great, Troy! :2thumbs:

Thanks Geno.. I'll probably do the same thing with the C500.... It has a set of magnums already on it. I thought of doggies, but with Y2 (assuming I keep it original), I don't think it'll look too good. Any of the darker colors would lend itself better to steelies.......  Maybe black on black with a black stripe. A stealth C500.......

my first thought from the heading was .....well Troy has been smoking those tires up a little too much and now had to buy new ones.... ;D

Nice upgrade if you drive a lot. :2thumbs:

Glad I am not the only one that has that lane change thing happen. Sometimes mine changes lanes from the rear forward so it might be my driving too.  :drive:

At least the Polyglass GT's don't make a car look like it is on roller skates like my Redlines do.  ;)

Nice change to the car! Looks great.  :2thumbs:

Of course I have always been a fan of a little more meat in the wheel wells!

I learned my lesson.  Everyone told me I didn't want the bias ply tires but I had to learn for myself.  It was funny, some cars didn't know if they wanted to pass me or not after following what they likely thought was a drunk behind the wheel.
Years ago when I drove OTR I got a new Peterbilt.  First year for air ride steer axle.  It's ride was comparable, almost like a boat.

What's real fun is driving in monsoon like conditions.  On our way home from Seattle I had to stop a couple times to see if I shart my pants.  ;)

Looks good Troy, nice to see you stayed with Goodyears.  :2thumbs:

see, now I'm just the opposite. I liked the polyglas look so much better. not that it looks bad now btw

And I like driving on them

I wish they would make a radial with the polyglass lettering and tread. I would think that would be a good seller. (OTOH maybe they do as I haven't looked for several years)

Nelson,

I understood you just fine, and my "extra" set of 15x8 wheels for the R/T wear the same B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tires as you use on your General Lee.  The other wheels have reproduction bias-ply red stripe tires and are usually installed just for going to & from some shows, which is more than enough time for me to remember what they're like :o

Just putting around town on the bias-ply tires isn't bad, it's Missouri's (in)famous rutted interstates which make the sudden lane change thing worse than it would otherwise be.  I've wondered a similar thing to what 472 R/T SE mentioned... am I going to get pulled over for a sobriety test?   :patrol:

maxwellwedge

My old Polyglas ride is pretty darn good.....on my power steering cars. The manual steering cars will juke the steering wheel from your hands if you get in a rut on the road. I'm with gtx6970 - Polyglas look the best to me.

nelson_audet

:)

for the look, the poylglass is verry at my taste.. i love it..

but for the driving feeling.. i love my BF :)
in quebec, the road are like in hazzard LOL many hole in the streeet... the winter is hard for the road in quebec.. so ride polyglass in quebec is extremely hard...

thx

Hemi 68 great time to post as I am  ready for tires and rims on my Daytona. Those are the same rims as I am after and those are the tires on my bird. Who carries the older chrome rallies. and what width of rims would I get for front and back, I would go 255 or 235. Those tires do look great. Rob.

I have 15x8's all the way around, that's what came on the car when I got it. If I was to purchase them, I probably would have gotten 15x7's up front for the magnums, steelies would have probably been 15x8 still. I have 255's all the way around.... I personally wouldn't go anything below that.......

Back in the day I had F 70-14 Firestone redlines  that were half worn out on the 500 and thats when I did my few 140 mph runs with and never thought twice about it but I haven't driven with bias ply tires for so long I would probably scare myself.

I do believe the back spacing is 4.5"... The rims are the same all the way around.
