Got a new holley 650... now what?

Hello, I just picked up a holley 650 after debating on weather to go edelbrock/holley. Im running a ed torker manifold on my 440. Anyways Im new to this, Ive got my new carb and intake all bolted on but now the coil wont bolt on the front of the intake because the holley is longer towards the front and back. Also What will I need to hook up the stock throttle cable and aftermarket kickdown cable or can I make it work? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

you need to get the throttle cable adapter (holley makes it and it mounts to the carburetor itself) and you can find one at most autoparts stores.  the coil will need to be relocated to the firewall or fenderwell.  the fenderwell is a good candidate as it is close enough to the distributor so your coil wire will still work fine.

A torker intake is more of a mid to upper RPM piece. What is the rest of the build like? And a 650 is sorta small for a 440. You will have better throtal reponse with the 650 but a performer RPM intake may be a better pick.

not trying to highjack the thread but why does everyone say 650cfm is too small for a 440? unless ur spinning ur motor 7k a 650 is usally plenty.  http://www.4secondsflat.com/Carb_CFM_Calculator.html

i think when most people look at cfm calculators like the one above they think there motor is running at 100% ve (volumetric efficiency). thats nearly impossible without some sort of forced induction, and with that ull be over 100% ve.  an incredibly efficient motor would have about 90% ve and with big vlalve overlaps and such the ve is not 90%.  so a 650 for a mild 440 that spins up to about 6500rpm would do just fine

Ya I agree with the torker maybe being the wrong intake, since my car is only a mild build so far.. but I did get it for free so will it be detrimental over the stock intake for me to run? or will I prob not notice a different at low rpms? I just thought I would still be ahead and a bit lighter than running the stock intake. Thanks

Oh ya where the heck does the pcv valve hookup on the new holley? Or do i get rid of it?

im 360 miles away from my cars right now :( so ill base it off memory, pretty sure its on the back of the carb.

Took some pics. The number of the carb is 1850-1. I dont see where the heck to hook up the pcv hose..

And just to be certain, the smaller barb fitting on the pass side is for the vac advance distributor right? Thanks

that large fitting on the back of the setup in the first picture would work, if u have power brakes sut tee it in, as for the distributors vac advance, the easiest way to know is if its sucking in air at idle, then ur good to go!

I don't think tee-ing the brake booster and the pcv is a good idea. Can you return that carb? Try and get one with a proper pcv fitting and a fuel fitting on the right side of the carb.

I agree...you should get a 4150 carb...that carb there is not going to be much of an upgrade...

Im not sure why this carb wont be a decent upgrade over my haggered avs on my mild 440. I know I prob shouldnt have a torker intake but I read the older torkers actually arent to bad at lower rpms.. I really dont want to overcarb. What would be the harm of tapping another port at the front of the intake for the pvc?

The fitting on the back of the intake is for the power brakes. There are two fittings on the front of the carb. The big one is for the PCV hose the small on is for the vacum advance on a mopar, cap the fitting on the passenger side. I love a torker on a big block mopar, but that 650 is not enough carb for a 440. You need at least a 750 with vacum secondaries.

honestly I don't ever recall seeing a fuel inlet on the left hand side of the car.  Just plumbing that in alone is gonna be an issue.  Your gonna have to bring fuel across and through where the return spring is.  Very weird...where did you get that thing?  Is it for a marine application?

You need a 4150 style carb.  That version there is the cheapo version for holley and is no different than a stock carb.  It totally mismatches the intake and is too small for a 440.  I agree on the 750 comment. 

The manifold and PCV nipples are usually under the bowls on the baseplate.  they can be hard to see sometimes.

Ya I got it from my local carquest I deal with, they had a couple decent deals on carbs this was the one the other was an edelbrock 750 avs style.. But after doing some research on here everyone steered me away from the edelbrock and I grabbed the holley from them because some older gearhead guy that frequents there told me it would work great on my car he had one on a 440 drag boat. I am not concerned about plumbing it if it would work but it really doesnt seem like its going to be worth it. There is no provisions for a pvc. I think its a non emissions type of carb for like a hot rod or boat like you say. Ill just get off my wallet I guess and get them to order me in exactly what I need. Man this hobby is hard on the young mans pockets! hehe but its worth it right?
