Engine cylinder sleeves?

Hello have a question on sleeves for engines. Are they pros cons on sleeving the engine cylinders (bore)?

it is a good repair to a block , make sure they cut / leave a lip into the bottom of the cylinder to keep the sleeve from moving down

 None than I know of raull. Why, did you break the 383 or is there problems with the 440?

To Cuda, oh no, thx for asking though.

The 440 is sitting at home, I have not checked the compression on it. It has no starter on it. I think the compression is good. My dad turn the engine to ensure its not stuck. He stated it seems to have a really good compression. He also stated the spark plugs seem to be burning evenly. He is guessing the engine has been stopped for at least 15 years, by the way it looks. The engine was taken out of a 1978 vehicle that was totaled. He said maybe all I need to do to it is have new valve seals put in it.

  The 383 is good just need to have a kit on the carburetor. Make it electronics. Looking for a chance on ebay, to get a 6AL box of anything appear at a bargain. MSD, Mallory, etc.  Nothing special its good at the moment. Low on funds.

This question was asked for a normal vehicle I drive, with blown engine. I thought after checking with the machine shop, all it was, was the head had cracked in three places. The block (all I will say Isuzu) was checked by a machine shop for bore size. And I was told it would be standard size. Well time came to assemble the engine and come to find out it had a small scratched in one of the cylinders  So I was told I could put a sleeve in that cylinder being the cheapest alternative. I had already bought the master rebuilt kit for that engine, a rebuild head, etc. but the machine shop failed me, to detect that deficiency on the cylinder bore. So far I have invested well over $800 to rebuild this engine on parts and labor. The sleeve and labor will cost me another $70. I got all the parts from the internet. So its hard for me to return back. Its a long story. Made it short.
