started tearing down the motor and found something that made me laugh.

my heads are made in Taiwan!

so the breathers are burnt onto the the valve covers. I have no idea how the rats got into the engine but thats a large rag

And I found something cool. the oil cooler drain line is a hollow bolt that holds the fuel pump in.

shes ooky but ill make it all better, thats if the block is good.. the plugs look great and the valves look good to and theres not much sludge so far so good

All of the cyl look great except this one. Its rusted due to mouse pee... and it has a few scratches from me turning it over. I havent finished breaking the motor down but so far so good.

Getting some body work done and got the dash out!

I got into where some bondo was cracking and found some rust under it. I started looking closer along the back side and sliding a putty knife on the inner fender to see where the bondo fingers were. looks like it got hit good but the body work done was done extremely well and the bondo isnt even a 1/4 thick so I am going back and fourth on either replacing the fender or leaving it and fixing it.... I should do it right and replace it :brickwall:

Removed the dash and the windshield. The plans are for the dash pad to be custom aluminum, I am keeping the dash frame and there is a lot of work to be done on it to get it ready. I will be keeping a stock look but I want it to look a bit mod to.

I honestly got a great project car minus that quarter panel. the only rust is from where the fire burned the paint off so getting under the cowl is going to be a nightmare... :eek2: I suppose ill have to cut it out and media blast it. but thats low on the list I need to get the car on blocks and check to see if its straight and then get the roll cage in. and start stiffing the whole car up to handle the beastly mill and VIR runs! But i get bored working on one thing for a long period of time so i will bounce around. and get more pics up! thanks guys!

I'm late to the party on this thread and just skimmed a bunch of posts, but I'll toss in a few cents and read more later. (Have to get back to my seat cover project).

First, nice car for a project. Love the 3rd gens. Did the truck driver pay for any of the damage to your properties? Can you file an insurance claim of some kind?

Yes, that's a factory oil cooler, not a trans. cooler. I don't think I'd try to use it as a tranny cooler as it wasn't designed for that purpose. I used to pull them off 70's cop cars all the time. I had a pile of them, but they got lost in the move.

Wicked72

sorry for the late reply. No he didnt even offer to help fix the damage or even give me a discount for that crap... I could have gotten into it but I just really wanted my car so I didnt even care to try. i just fixed it all my self after staring at the car for a few hours. Btw Ill have an update soon. I have been working out of state every week and when I get home I dont have the energy to even wipe my own a$$. so this week ill have some more progress. However I havent wasted the time, I have been figuring out every detail I will be doing to the car and I have just about everything figured out. And trust me it wont be an ordinary build.  I am going back and fouth between a slush box or man trans. The hp I am going with kinda limits me with what I want. I want a 6speed but I want something more of overkill for hp rating since ill be driving the piss out of it till i cant afford the gas. So if I can find a 6spd man that can handle 750+ ill be happy. I know the t56 is rated for 700 and ill most likely be on the lower end of 700 but I dont feel comfortable with a slightly underrated trans spec. The slush box i am looking at is the 6speed auto from TCI. Its rated for 850hp which is more then enough which makes me feels safe. But the weight issue comes into play between the two so unless I can get a better 6spd man I might got with the slushy.          Pics coming soon!  ;D

so its been forever since my last update.... things have changed alot.. however for good! and it will hurt my major plans for the charger. IM HAVING TWINS!!!!!! Due on Dec8 but since its twins more like Nov  Ive decided to scrap the major things and just get the damn thing on the road and enjoy it, and if I have some spare cash here and there which is unlikely ill get what I want on it till its done. I wish I had not sold the rear and just threw a few things into it to make it stronger and go. I was going to send it out for media blasting but screw it Im going to strip it and do the paint my self in the garage and just get crafty with the home made booth. the seats will endup custom by me and Ive never done upholstery so ill find out how much it sucks to do. I really want to just get the engine done right the first time and not worry about the supercharger for now and just the low comp turd. the machining is cheap and I the cheapest kit ive found for a forged kit is $1450 from indy. if any one knows of a cheaper kit let me know. im going to get a new windshield since its destroyed from being in arizona all its life but the other windows will be restored using a kit from eastwood. im going to carlisle this year and hopefully getting some body parts I need. hell I might even pick up an old running engine. but I want to go with a man trans bad so hopefully I can find something cheap for now... ill more then likely get it put together as much as I can with a cutin paint job till I can get a good booth to paint in. for rims Ill get what I can and throw some cheap rubber. then again maybe Ill win the lottery and just send it to chip foose  :smilielol: hopefully Ill have some progress shots soon!!

It's hard when you have a wife & house, and now twins coming. I know I have a wife two daughters and a house, and let's not forget the dog. I've been working on my 72 charger se for 5 years and some times feel like it will never get done. I can't tell you how many times my charger was put on the back burner. The sweet 16 alone I could have finished my car. You're also lucky that you have your own garage. I pay rent where I keep my car so when it's on the back burner, I still pay. I wish for the best of luck to you.
BTW I got screwed from AAA All Star Discount Auto Transport. When I bought my 72 coronet wagon they did the same thing. Everyone should stay away from this crook.

Congrats on the Twins   Keep the good work coming and post pics when you can....

On another subject, how do you like the compressor?

Wicked72

The compressor is fantastic!!! Theres nothing I cant do with it. Ive done just about everything plus media blasting and painting.

The whole quarter was 100bs of bondo so i yanked it, stripped every underneath and painted it. i used weldthru primer everywhere needed

Wicked72

Picked up another 400 with a 727 and all the goodies for next to nothing. they said it was low miles and when i took the intake off it really looks like it never ran much. i replaced the water pump, oil pump, thermostat, ill be doing the gaskets and seals as well. i used some wrinkle paint on the vavle covers and threw on a dual plane intake. im using a 600 cfm edelbrock carb i got used which should work fine for such low comp.
