the front face of the MP fan clutch says STORE THIS FACE DOWN... great, but WHAT ABOUT WHEN IS MOUNTED ?

I made a try and storaged couple of days on a sloppy surface, and it began to spin a little bit freely. Then storaged back faced down and everything back to normal

I'm affraid on the response when mounted. The haynes unit I have right now ( just 6 months since mounted ) spins allmost free.

Just park like this when not using it. Fan clutch will last much longer.

Seriously, I wouldn't worry about it. The clutch will grab more when it gets hot.

I think the issue is about leaking past the seal when it is placed upside down.  I suppose the seals can leak over time when they are vertical as well (hence their wearing out?? :shruggy:) but it seems to be much less a concern.  That gravity is powerful stuff I guess.

The Hayden website says the clutch has a working area and reservoir, and by some mechanism pumps the fluid between compartments. Can't imagine how it could get in the wrong place, and why it would matter unless it leaks out on the table.

So you got a non-thermal Hayden fan clutch?

I do...on the Daytona...no springy thingy in front....it's engaged at low RPM....disengaged at higher RPM

I guess the reason I asked if he has the non-thermal Hayden is that on their website it says they spin at 30-60% of water pump speed vs 60-70% for the standard duty thermal when engaged. It also says that their non-thermal clutches are a low cost alternative to thermal clutches and have a shorter lifespan and cannot replace a heavy duty thermal clutch.

A383Wing

I've had mine on there since '96....no problems..

Nacho-RT74

mine is thermal. I can see it spinning allmost a complete turn when winds the fan, even hot

ok, I'm dissapointed... once mounted and after 30 minutes ride ( normal temperature, around 1/3 of gage ) the clutch spins freely enough to give a 3/4 spin when winding!
