Hey guys, when I purchased my 440 it came with 516 heads that are basically new, redone about 100 miles ago, new valves and all. I believe they are to spec. How much do you guys think they are worth?

Are they the small exhaust valve or the large one.....If I remember, 67 440's came with 516 closed chamber heads and large 1.74 exhaust valves....one year only....

Could be wrong,  :scratchchin:

That would be the infamous "915" head you are referring to..The "516" head always came 1.60 exhaust valve...Some of the REALLY early (Late 50's)heads came through with 1.94 Intake and 1.60 exhaust...To answer the question, I would thiunk you could get at least the amount for the new parts and machine work..But, I wouldn't be looking for Aluminum head price, as there were just too many "516" heads made....

I don't trust 516's at all.
I attempted to take an unmolested stock set of 516's out and have a machine shop take them out to 1.74... $400 later the bowl on the far end went into the jacket and they were trash.
That's just my story, and I'm sure there are plenty of others out there with successful stories of them, but for me the jackets were just too close, I x-rayƩd all of the insides of the bowls on that set of heads and found that 2 out of the 3 remaining cylinders on both sets of heads had less than 1/2mm before getting into the jackets.
And why try to make power out of a head with 1.6 exhaust valves and not bore them out, even if its a closed chamber.
Rather get a set of 915's or a new set of aluminum heads.

Hey guys, I went and I picked up a head and checked it out, I didn't use the correct measuring tool to measure the valves, but it seems that they have larger valves. Previous owner put in about 1000$ on the redo and it seems like they have 1.81 exhaust and 2.14 intake. I Cant use these heads since I am rebuilding my 440 and will have about 10.2:1 CR with 82cc 906s. What would you pay for these heads with bigger valves? They are like new.

What did you use to measure with?

BubBABFP

A fitness measuring tape for the body parts. ( :smilielol:) I am not 100% that it has the sizez I posted above, but I know that the exhaust valve goes way over 1.6 close to 1.8. and the intake goes over 2.10. I need to measure with a correct tool.
