500wedge or viper engine swap??

ok heres the idea! I am looking to get close to 1300hp on either a 400 which i have and build it to 500ci add twin turbos and efi etc.. or gen1-3 viper engine on twins as well. How ever I would love to have that power with a supercharger to keep the sexy engine roar. I know that twins are more streetable with that kind of power but I dont know about a supercharger setup. I know 1300hp on the street is insane but I am a crazy person  :drool5: . I dont really need that kinda power I just really want to destroy all these ricers in my area so bad with a REAL car. The car will be used for mostly on the street and maybe a quick tire swap to throw it on the track so i am looking for a semi reliable setup. viper engines have gotten cheap, $4500 for a complete engine and trans for a gen 1 but I dont not know what the max hp that motor can handle on stock internals. Building up a viper engine is very expensive however I have heard of some of them being able to handle 1000hp very well so thats why I have considered a viper engine, As far as the 400 with a stroker kit and some other goodies I have not figured out what the total cost might be to compare it with a viper engine and trans. I know all this is a confusing mouth full. What do you guys think I should do for a crazy setup?? :eek2:

 your kidding right?..  :smilielol:

  welcome to the site...

I'll give 'ya one thing, 1300 HP sounds great until you see the bill that's gonna take with either the V10 or the 500 Wedge...Those ricers spend ungodly amounts of cash to make those insane videos you see on YouTube..It's entertainment nothing more..Rich guys playing with their toys...

A 1300 HP 655 Cu.In. Engine right now ON MOTOR will set you back about $40,000-$50,000......I can only emagine what a Viper V10 will cost just to build it, then you have that T56 trans, Fuel injection to run it, aftermarket injectors, Twin Turbo set-up, camshaft, Head work, etc...
There is a guy here with a mustang that put 1135 HP to the rear wheels....Of course, the back story is it took him all of 13 years to build and $80,000.......All this with a 331 Cu. In. engine...IT IS NOT Street Leagal, and is NOT "Reliable" either...(Trailer queen) For MY $80K, it has 4 bedrooms, two baths, a front yard, back yard, and a driveway...

I applaude your effort though....Good luck with it...

I think you should read a little more, then when you get all the knowledge and the $$$ then go to the drawing board.  The engine aint the half of it.. you will have to build the car to handle that kind of HP and that aint cheap no matter how you look at it.

I agree, the engine ain't the half of it.

My two cents - just build the biggest-displacement motor you can afford and forget about the power adders & high RPMs.  Don't chase a specific HP number, just try to build the most fun car all around.  The most fun isn't always the fastest.  "Most fun" tends to mean simple, fairly lightweight, and the mechanicals are pretty overbuilt in terms of the drivetrain & cooling system.  That's the kind of car you can drive like a teenager.  (And don't get too obsessed with hooking the power up if the main thing you fantasize about doing with it is breaking it loose.)

Turbos have the spool-up factor and I think that really kills the fun.  Naturally aspirated motors are so much more, um . . .  "NATURAL"  . . . when you hit the gas.

The only forced-induction motor I would wanna do for fun would be maybe a modern screw-type supercharger.  Not the traditional Roots type, nor the centerfugal.  The screw-type blowers give it nice even power addition throughout the RPM band once you get above something like 2000 RPM.

Thanks for the welcome and yes SEXY ENGINE ROAR!! How else to describe what gives a man good chub lol. Honestly I want a damn fun car for sure. I was considering the viper engine mainly because of its weight but yeah I have looked into building the engine and the cost its way way up. If I could build a supercharged wedge that would make the lil ricers cry that would make my day. What do you think a reliable hp on a supercharged 500 wedge would be and I know quality parts are a must? I would go with a more modern supercharger instead of a roots.  As far as building the car to handle the power Im trying to just get a really good idea on the power plant and usage I am looking for so I can get a good combo together before I start buying up parts based on that.  As soon as I get her Ill post pics and do a build thread, she has a long haul from Arizona and I will be starting asap and in the market for some goodies.

Im assuming the trans I got is a 727 ill find out this week. You guys got a recommendation on a good place to get a kit to build it up to handle that power? or maybe a better trans. I wouldnt mind going to a manual trans. either doesnt matter
