So tell me DOH fans, how many Roadrunners got hammered?

IIRC Daisy's yellow Roadrunner went airborne a few times, and one of them went over a cliff. So just to see how obsessed you die-hard DOH fans are, how many Roadrunners got killed during the show?

Cooter

Less than the 300 Chargers....Alot were Satellites....I get hit with this question at every car show..."Man, they sure tore up ALOT of good Chargers"...And I reply the same way..."Well, when your talking over 50K of 'em made in 1968, then around the same made in 1969 and 1970, 300 doesn't sound that bad does it?"

hey cooter,  are you THE Cooter, Ben Jones, or do you just own a General Lee that you take to shows.

I have this stuff written down somewhere but it's been a while.

They only had a few Roadrunners/Satellites.  I think there were 3 of the 1971/72 style in California.  The "Dukes" crew killed a lot of cars, but they also got their money's worth out of those cars before declaring them dead.

I can't remember but there might have only been one of the yellow 1973/74 Plymouths in Georgia.  They never really beat on that car until the Cali shooting.

bull

Are there any former DOH Roadrunners/Satellites in the hands of collectors today?

Mike DC

Not that I know of.

DOH killed one of the Daisy RRs by throwing it off a cliff at Indian Dunes for the car's official death scene.  (Same cliff that was in the background during the famous GL river jump.)  And then they killed another one of the 71/72 RRs by launching it over a creek with a different paintjob a few episodes later.

The also used 73-74 Satellites/RRs in a few other episodes later in the series.  Bo & Luke once bought a pale yellow one to replace the GL in season #4, and they did a pretty big jump with it.  It wasn't actually the GA car but it looked a lot like it without the striping.  Then in the season#5 opener Vance & Coy arrived at the Duke farm in another 73/74 Plymouth painted blue w/white stripe.  They jumped one of those behind the Duke barn and then roasted another copy of it with a flame thrower.

Um..No......I really don't think the "Real" Cooter would be on this site posting at all, but Being that I'm an Automobile Tech., and I have a GL, I figured "Cooter" Just fit...Plus, all the "Cool" names were already taken.... :-\

Thats how I ended up with Tilar instead of Tyler, which is the name of the city in Texas where I used to live.

In my fantasized epic DOH movie, I've thought about coming up with some kind of hybrid cross between a 71/72 and a 73/74 bodystyle for Daisy's car.  Or maybe the model would change partway through the movie (preferably right in the middle of a shot) with no explanation.

Ive always wondered how many cop cars were used. Paul Baxley, said in an interview one time, that he wanted to get a shot of Roscoe/Enos crashing into each other...Didn't like the 1st take, so they drug the cars off set, brought in 2 more, didn't like the 2nd take, then bring in 2 more, got a take they liked. 6 cars to film one shot. Man thats crazy, that show must have had a helluva a budget.

About the Roadrunner, in the Georgia episodes, it was a 73 or 74 model, when they started filming in CA, it was a 72. There was one episode, I can't remember which one there was a dash shot in the car, and it had a Satellite emblem above the glovebox.

:shruggy:   Not true, you could have gone with "littleskipper"   1/2skip,   skippy or  my favorite---- "the-other-skip"
These are are good choices and still retain a solid level 2 cool factor.    ;)

Far as cars go, I know they wrecked at least 3.

THE STIG

The only Roadrunner I remember in any episode of DoH was where they had to go meet up with some friend, who had never been in any episode prior or ever again. They got some info from him and took off. It was a yellow 71/72.

Black Charger

Funny I should stumble upon this thread, as I was browsing the model kits at the local hobby shop and I found a reissue of the MPC model kit for Daisy's Roadrunner. The year isn't listed on the box, but in the shot on the front the car was clearly a yelow '73/'74 with stock black stripes. Here is a link to an identical kit listed on E-Bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/MPC-1-25-Scale-Daisy-Dukes-Road-Runner-Model-Kit_W0QQitemZ310204878407QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4839a6ce47

Cooter

In the first season, I believe it was black, and it was around a 1967-72 Ford.....(Gas station filling up when Boss tells the boys that there's a "Ration" on gas)..

The rest of the time it was white, and a 1973-79 model.. (Dirty white that is)....Cooter had about 5 Different Tow trucks during filming as well...
A Yellow Ford, that 1969 Brown Chevy pick-up used in "Repo men", that white/red Chevy C30 Wrecker used for the Model kits, and I believe there's another one in there somewhere.

Didnt Daisy drive a Jeep at one point?

Yes, she got that Jeep in the episode "The Runaway" where her RR also went off the cliff to it's death. From around mid season 2 and up to season 7 they used the Jeep then.

Speaking of Cooter (not you) what happened to him in season 2? There was some other Cooter-like mechanic on the show for a while.

They wanted him to shave and he didn't want to because who his charcater was. James best was off the show for alittle while also because of dressing rooms issues as they made the actors change in a make shift tent out in the parking lot for alittle while when they got back to CA. John anjd Tom left Season 5 because of royatys and came back just afew episodes shy in 5th season from going intyo 6th season.

Sorta.  You're combining two different episodes with that description.

In the last one of the Georgia shows, Jesse had an early 70s fullsize Ford (think of Burt's ride in "White Lightning") moonshine tripper.  It was either black or an extremely dark green, hard to tell from the film.  The car had been gold from the factory and I wonder if the green tint wasn't just that paint showing through the black layer.

There was another show in the second season where they watched some old black & white films of Jesse & Boss when they were younger.  Then they staged a present day (well, 1979) race between them and Jesse got a black Mustang from Cooter.  (It seems that Jesse was actually a Ford man, Chargers & Roadrunners in the family or not.)
