After almost 2 years on the starter, rebuilt one installed, it started to grind as if the teeth are not engauging when cranking. After tapping the starter with a hammer it will operate normally with no starter "run on" as if it is still engauged. The flywheel teeth and starter teeth apear to be fine. Another starter time?

Where can I get these items at? It is just a standard 318 with a 904.

ONCE I got like the starter was not engauging and grinding the TC... at the end was an internal starter motor fail, being the armature front end bushing out of the starter case. The grinding noise was coming from inside the starter motor, when armature gear was out of the bendix shaft main gear.

I tried to replace the bushing, but the starter motor housing was worn out, so new bushing didn't fit tight into the case... replaced the case.

Consider getting one of those high-torque mini starters. It made a world of difference on my car with faster starting.
