I am test fitting the outer wheelhouse, trunk extension and full qtr on pass side.  The wheelhouse doesn't fit real well where it meets the flange in qtr window area and there is a gap where the qtr and wheelhouse meet at the wheel opening.  Anyone have these issues?  Have a pic from inside the wheel well looking at the wheelhouse to qtr gap and a pic of the roof to qtr seam.  Any ideas?  Thanks

Matt

whatever you do..alter the 'hidden' pieces and not the quarter. I'd get the 1/4's aligned properly with the roof, dutchamn and rear valances and then alter the wheelhouse pieces to fit them.

making the glass fit is the biggie, might have to be crafty. Your roof seam looks good, maybe forward on the qtr.
the drivers qtr. did fit better

I'll have to take some more pics and post.  The deck filler panel is gone as well as the tail light panel and valence.  The qtr seems to fit good everywhere but that spot.  I haven't chopped the driver side qtr yet.

Patronus

I fit the tail panel first then qtr then corners. Just center the valence and go...tack first. Measure from side to side. The glass has to be on and lined up, work everything else...I had to split the new qtr 6" up and stretch it 1/8", opened the dutchmen/sail 1/2", = they will need some love, 300+ hrs... and still no paint  :drunk:

Got any pics of that process?? Thanks  Matt

Is the wheel house from Goodmark or AMD? The Goodmark ones aren't known for their fit.

Troy
Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

SFRT

we had many discussions with AMD and they will tell you that the most issues they hear about fitment involve replacing the wheelhousing AND the quarter.... and they recommend saving your old one with patchwork whenever humanly possible.

Troy, everything is AMD stuff.  I sold all the Goodmark parts I had.

Well that sucks, live and learn I guess.

Okay, finally getting around to fooling with this.  It looks like I am going to have to chop the inner wheelhouse to get it to fit properly.  I have the option of cutting it high or low closer to the seam.  If I cut it higher I will be able to finish off the weld better on both sides, if I do it lower I won't be able to finish of the inside of the weld very well.  What do you guys think?

runningman

Okay, ended up cutting higher on the wheelhouse.  I am almost done welding in the patch pieces, it does fit nice now though.  I am surprised that I had to move it this much.  There doesn't seem to be much adjustment with the quarter once it's in place, hopefully the rest of the panels will fit better.  It does look like I am going to have to split the dutchman panel also, where is the best area to do this?  Closer to the flange that welds to the qtr?  I'll get some pics soon when I get it finished up.

just wait till you get to the bodywork part... Im picky so.... I would advise you to skim coat the entire panel and be done in one... :Twocents:

Still working on outer wheelhouse, what a PITA....I had to lower the majority of the middle about a half inch, lots of welding....I am hoping to have it all cleaned up and ready for installation by the end of the weekend.  Anyone else have this problem when installing both the full qtr and wheelhouse?

All part of the job when dealing with aftermarket. I know I had to do massive Hacking & cutting on the 70 Super Bee wheel wells. :brickwall:  LEON

I had the exact same thing happen with my 68 Road Runner: AMD quarters and Goodmark outer housings. I was stumped, but then just decided the path of least resistance (or least notice-ability???) was to get the quarter on straight at the door jamb, roof, and tail panel first.  Test fit the glass as well.  Once that was done I crawled into the wheel well and used a small angle grinder to cut the wheel house along it's diameter about an inch up from the flange.  I cut the radius all around until the point at which the quarter and outer housing met where there was no gap.  The biggest area of gap for me was at the top of the housing and it tappered slowly off from there.  The slit was about 1/2 way around the housing.  Then I cut a vertical notch in the center of that 1" piece of metal and used some small c-clamps to pull the flange tight to the lip on the quarter.  The vertical notch essentially made it two pieces, and it allowed the two pieces to overlap each other when I pulled them tight to the quarter lip.  After clamping it in place, what remained was about a 1/4" rough gap that I then filled in with spare metal.  Once ground down and smooth, it wasn't noticeable.  Plus, it got covered with undercoating anyway, so nobody could tell the work had been done.   :2thumbs:  Hope that helps!

That is just about what I had to do.  I cut it higher and used a strip of metal off of my old one to fill in the gap.  I am working on grinding the welds to clean it up.

So I find out today that the part that AMD reproduced was incorrect, it was for a 4 door Dodge B-body.  They just finished up the new tooling and expect to have the new parts out in late June or early July.  I talked to a sales rep at AMD and he said they would replace the outer that I have now so that is good news.  I just wish I would have known before spending so much time fooling with the other one.

hemi-hampton

Why are they selling people with 2 doors 4 door parts. Reminds me of the Brake Conversion Kit I got, After days of screwing with it trying to make it fit the Help hotline then say's were sorry, We sold you the wrong parts & dont make any to fit your car :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall:  LEON.

runningman

Leon,

For whatever reason they thought these wheelhouses were correct for the Chargers and they were not.  I am glad they figured it out before I had everything hacked up to make the others fit properly.  We'll see how the new ones fit in a few months.

hemi-hampton

That's a Major Major blunder in my opinion. If I was investing so much money in parts I'd want to be sure I was makling the right part instead of wasting my time & money on the wrong part :slap: :RantExplode:  LEON.

So got the new wheelhouse and did a test fit.  It fit much better where the inner and outer meet but.........still have the gap where it meets the quarter  :icon_smile_dissapprove:.  I have been working seven days so I haven't been out in the garage much but hopefully will be back at it soon.  Looks like I still have some hacking to do.  I called AMD and I got a call back, sounded like it might have been the owner.  He suggested I take it and stand it on end and do some tugging and what not to get it close..I'll have to see if that helps.

So, if I'm reading this right. AMD made a 4 door part thinking it was a 2 door part, went thru test fits of there own. Yet sold it as correct. Kinda makes one wonder who or If a test fit was made. And just how many of these 'wrong' pieces are out in the aftermkt
