Hey all my 77 440 was in a 72 Ramcharger and I don't know what the motor originally came out of. I know it doesn't have a 402 pan because it looks to be too deep and it doesn't have a casting stamp number. It is going in a 68 Charger, would I need to upgrade to a 402 pan and pick up? I am on a budget so I don't want to spend LOTS of money on a Oil pan.

If it came out of a "Truck" then it should be a rear sump pan...The "Car" pan sump is in the middle...You should be able to run any "car" type oil pan IMO......I've run all kinds of pans that dumped in the center and never had an issue except in my Dart...

Hey Cooter thanks for your reply buddy, you are correct because the pan is a rear sump pan. I was looking to buy a new 402 pan, but they seem to be around 130 bucks. I figured I should just invest in a new Milodon or Moroso.

Here is what I was thinking to get

would you happen to know what pick up to buy for that oil pan?

Cooter

If you go with a Milodon pan, then I'd get the reccomended Pick up to go with it...As for the 3/8", or the 1/2" the 3/8" is stock BB Chrysler and the 1/2" pick up is Hemi only....

Thx buddy, as for the pan I linked above, you think its to big? or should I just get a lower profile one? I am thinking of having my charger pretty low but not slammed.

Cooter

Well, My experience with Deep sump pans is if your careful, then no problem, but if you drive the car like it's not on there, then that's when you end up with a hole in the pan...

Milodon should sell a stock style pan, or even a "Hemi" 6,or 7 quart pan. I'd go with a Windage tray as well....

They have a stock replacement, but its only a 4qt isn't that a little low? 440 will have a High Volume Oil Pump too.

The 1/2" pickup was also used in the 440, six pac.

Use the Hemi reproduction pan with a 3/8 pickup. Holds 6qts + filter and won't hang below the k-frame (lots of ground clearance)  :2thumbs:

Mancini carries the pan & pickup in a package deal (mre-884k for 169.95) Get a windage tray while you're at it.  :Twocents:
