69 charger 500 XS vin help!!!!!

Looked at a 1969 charger 500 yesterday that has a XS vin. Car is low mileage, numbers matching with build sheet. Has the appropriate A11 and stripe delete codes, and I know that early 500's were actually R/T's that were sent over to Creative... My question is: What vins (sequence#) were the R/t's? This car is an early one, but what vin range does it need to be in? Just trying to make sure it is real before I jump.. What other unique things do I need to look for other than the obvious?
Thanks for any help.

Should have codes A11, V88, Y39, and VON should start with 925xxx.  If it has all of these, plus a buildsheet and numbers matching drive train I think I'd be pretty confident that its a real 500.  Mine has an XS fender tag, but XX vin, and it was built September 29th. I would think if its one of the XS-vin 500s, it should be earlier than that. I imagine if you posted the VIN, someone on here could probably verify it for you. Seems like there aren't too many aero cars out there that someone on here doesn't know about.

I don't have any pics of the car yet - as soon as I get some, I will post... Anyway, the car has those codes on the trim tag, A11, Y39 V88 and the VON number I guess it's called is 925210 - looks like it is after your car.  This car was also built sept 29th 1968... (929) A little after yours. The block and trans both have the full vin's stamped on them with an X stamped over the S on both.... Everything seems to match and look legit. I have spent hours now going over post after post trying to get an exact answer on this XS to XX vin change - seems to have happened at the assembly plant right around the time your and this car were built. Seems to be very few XS 1969 charger 500's out there.

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

VON 925210 is one of the very odd cars. This car does not have XX anywhere on the car including the VIN. It is a legit 500. I can't believe that the owner is selling the car. I was just about an hour away from him for the last week and did not go over and look at the car. I am still hoping to get a chance to photograph the car personally at one point in time.

If your interested in the car you can rest assured it is a LEGIT 500. I believe it was featured in a Mopar Magazine back in 1991. I'll have to check the info in my spreadsheet as I'm going from memory at this point. Just walked in the door about an hour ago after an 18 hour drive so I'm a bit sleepy.

I have only seen a few cars that are XS everywhere on the car and this is one of them. Engine, trans, VIN, and fender tag all read XS as well as the sheet. I thought I had a copy of the sheet here but can't find it right this second. Very nice car. As far as the XS on the fender tag in my list I think it is around a 50/50 split on XS and XX. With the change over date being November 14th. However this one is a bit odd in that even the dash VIN has XS. The few that I have seen do not run sequential to each other though. I think that they were just errors that someone made along the line. As a matter of fact none of them are built on the same days as the others.

XS or XX
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Daytona and 500 Registrations from  1976 wing warrior newsletter. It reads how many of you daytona and chargers 500 owners have the problem of possesing a registration slip showing maybe XS on the paperwork instead of XX.Well if you want to correct this error. Then heres what Mike Mcguire says you have to go through to straighten the matter out.As he had the same problem with his daytona. You write to James H Kilroy chrysler corporation office of civic affairs P.O. Box 1919 Detroit Michigan 48231.Include a copy of the title and picture of the car.And if possible a picture of the serial number on the dash.Or from the engine compartment plate. We recommend you use the dash.As we have seen a case where they even put XS on the engine compartment plate instead of XX as was on the dash.Mr Klilroy will inturn respond with a letter to your state DMV notorized stating he correct serial number. And they will in turn change the registration. Most of these problems were caused by an erroneous statement on the the factory title of origin. And in this case the mistake was made on Mikes Daytona.

He is not selling the 500.. We MIGHT arrange a trade for my very rare car, maybe.... I really appreciate the help and knowlege you have about this car - everything looked correct to me, but I wanted to make sure. If the deal goes down, the car will be about 30 mins from his house and will be sleeping with a 69 R/T charger and a 69 383 B7 blue charger.... In a carpeted garage... The deal is something we both don't have to do.... Might happen... Don't know.... For everyone else paying attention to this post - the engine and trans both do match the VIN, with an X stamped over the S... From what I have read all over the net is that there isn't a definate day when Mopar made the switch from XS to XS/XX then to XX vins.. Seemed kinda random maybe due to errors, rushing or staff.. I really appreciate the help everyone has given - thanks again!

My engine also has the X stamped over the S, don't know about the trans though, its MIA....

I have not found anywhere written down either that states when exactly they switched from XS to XX on the engines/trans/or fender tags. I just know from my personal observations that I have YET to see any that say XX on the fender tag with a scheduled production date of earlier than B14 (November 14th). Then engines and trans are a different story. They are all over the place and I have not figured out any pattern on that one yet. Some are XS, others XX, others XS with an X stamped over the S. And I can't come up with enough original engine samples to make an educated guess on that one.
