Frank,

Just talked to the little lady and she said the car has a nice warm spot inside our second garage. :2thumbs: :2thumbs: :2thumbs:  Be right at home next to its brother 69 charger!  (you just need to help me move some stuff out of the way in order to get it to fit in there)

3K is awful low, so do be surprised if he throws some attitude at you. If the car runs and isn't full of rot it is worth 5 maybe 6K if mostly solid, just like a couple others have said.

Thats the thing guys.

The car is no where near running, and most deff not going anywhere.

The car has been sitting in that spot since 1989. The quarters look shot, teamroth was saying he said there is an issue with one of the front rails. Im sure there are plenty of other problems.

Yes its a numbers matching but its a 318 car that needs a full resto again.

I have a project already on my hands, i dont need another one unless its for the right price. For 6-9k i can get a low optioned driver. Id say this car is worth 3-4k tops the way its sits, its a low optioned car.

Look at some of the cars for sale on the site..heck even troy is selling his REAL R/T for 20k, and that's a car that can be driven.

As far as i can tell he does not need the money, and i dont want to low ball him and offend him. But the car is doing itself no good sitting there, and you guys know as well as i do that if it sits there any longer its going to be a nice parts car...if that much. Im hoping he wants to get rid of it knowing its going to a good place and its going to be restored and no longer be a lawn ornament returning to the earth.

Im not going to just hand him 3k and say "Thats what i think its worth, do ya wana sell it?"

I am just going to be straight, ill tell him i dont have much money because of the car i already have on my hands. Ill tell him im not trying to offend him but being 21 and still in college i only have upwards of 3k to spend. Its going in a garage until the time comes for it to be restored again. Maybe he'll go for it, maybe he wont...but its worth a shot. Worst case is he says no and the car sits there until its too late, but he dosnt seem the type to let to get to THAT point, he seems to realize that these things do have an expiration date if there left out there like that.

Thanks Brian!!!!! We shall see how this one pans out!

This is what i said in the last email. He said he dosnt have a pc at home so he should get back to me by tomorrow

"About your asking price for the car, to be honest with college and my
current project i probably could not afford that. Maybe doing
payments, but not in one shot. If you would let it go for any less,
than it might be a little more in grasp, im not trying to offend you
and i know the car holds a lot of sentiment for you so i dont blame
you for really wanting it to be worth your while to sell it (heck id
do the same)...simple fact is i would rather put the money towards my
car but something like this doesn't come up very often.  Regardless, i
would still like to meet ya and would love to see the car up close for
once. "

Since you have admired that car from a distance for so long, it might be worth your while to spend a little more than you planned on if nothing else to get the thing inside and give it a good home. There seems to be no shortage of demand for 1969 Chargers, so if you decide later on that it will take too much time and/or money to restore, you could always sell it and get your money back out of it. It sounds like the owner would like to see you get this car, so I wish you the best of luck in getting it!

I payed 8600 for my 68 3 years ago. It had rust issues and barely drove, probably did over pay but honestly I haven't seen one cheaper in my area since then.  The guy wanted 10,500 for it too. I keep hearing 2nd gens in similar sounding conditions to what mine was go for around 6K top, but I personally haven't seen them. :Twocents:

I would have waited to say anything untill I got to look at it up close, then you could have pointed out the problems to him to help convince him to go a little lower on the price using what you said above.

This is the email i got back

Hi Frank,
I totally understand about the financial part...seems like everybody is being affected by the lousy economy. I remember all too well struggling through my college years. I wouldn't worry though about the Charger going anywhere anytime soon. I still have a lot of thinking to do about it, so it will probably be there for a while. Maybe my situation will change in the near future as far as owning my own garage is concerned...if  that's the case, I would most likely keep the car and restore it little by little.
If, on the other hand, I cannot manage to keep the car any longer, you and/or Thad would be the first person I contact....if I had to sell the car, it would be great to sell it to someone who has been admiring it for years like you did. You remind me of me when I was just 8 years old and I saw  the Charger on my block for the first time in 1969...love at first sight. lol.
Even if I don't sell it in the near future, I really have to start taking steps to take better care of the car...I've been neglecting it a lot in the past few years...those car covers (the good ones that breathe) are really expensive, and they deteriorate so quickly. I went through (3) covers already. I think there is a colony of cats living under the car...they're probably responsible (in part) for the ripped up cover. Once in a while I see one sitting on top of the car.
Anyway, thanks for letting me know about the rip...recently I have been reluctant to look at the car because I know I will cringe when I see the new rust spots.
But yes, we can definitely make plans to meet so that you can see the car up close...actually that may be a bad thing because I'm sure it looks much worse up close than far away.
Regarding the asking price, someone told me that the best thing to do is to place an ad on Ebay and see how high the bidding goes....this would be a good indicator of what I can get for it through a private sale. I'm not too familiar with placing ads through Ebay, which is why I haven't done that yet.
Anyway, like I said before, the best time to get together for me is during the week...I am usually away for the weekends...keep in touch and we'll get together eventually. Thanks,
                                                          Richie.

You can see he really does not want to give it up, and i dont blame him....it was his first car. I told him if he put it on ebay just put it at a high reserve price if he wants to see how high it will go. Id be more than happy to help him with it if he did get a garage and was able to start to restore it again. I just hate to see it sit out there.

Were planning to meet up in about 2-3 weeks (when we set our clocks back an hour) this way we could meet up after work and still have some daylight left. It would be nice to own this one, and at the same time id still feel bad for him having to give up his own kind of time capsule. But at least he knows it will have a nice warm home and be around for many many years to come, instead of returning to where it came.

Lets see how this one pans out. Im happy hes not one of them asses who just want to let it sit there because there gonna fix it "some day" and never do. He's a very nice guy to chat with.

Also guys, yes the cover is ripped, but the roof seems just fine last i remember..even with the cats living there. I figure there better than mice eating up the interior, and making burros in the frame and they will keep the mice away.

I am glad to hear that things are looking up for you. If you don't wind up with the Charger, look at it this way, at least you have now made a new friend. Besides, if he went to the same school as you and is in the same line of work, maybe he might have some connections in the business which could come in handy for you after graduation. I have always believed that the best things in like come from people/places where you least expect it.
