The car is better known as the Doc Daytona of Maxwell wedge. This book Mighty Mopars by Anthony Young from 1983 Mentions the car and day it shipped .Long before the better known as the daytona shiplist. He is also the one that made the full list #501 in its entirety available to the wing cars community

Any insight as to why the first car would be shipped to Canada. Especially to such a small town. Were they trying to hide the car! You would think they would have wanted the first cars to go to the big Nascar markets. Although, I guess the object of the production build wasn't really to sell these in large numbers but rather to satisfy a production requirement to qualify for Nascar

nascarxx29

Not sure why Canada.  :Twocents: They got alot of daytonas about #50 in the unique 414 Canada daytona vin range

Wasn't it because he had paid for one before they were officially released?

Reading this thread http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,49682.0.html nascarxx29 posted info that the first owner bought it off the lot so it does't appear as if it was pre-paid. In fact, quoting that post :"Chesbrough has driven this car only 34,000 miles and it is in original condition except for a factory warranty repaint in 1971. One of the interesting features of the car is the dealer installed six-pack and finned valve covers. "That was how I purchased it." says Chesbrough, "I imagine they put those items on to make it more saleable - they tried almost everything to get it off the lot."
I just find it interesting that this little dealer in a little town not even in the U.S. somehow got the first car which I would have expected to go somewhere more imporrtant. I mean these cars where going to turn Nascar on its ear. You couldn't get much further away from Nascar by sending the car to Kingston. (not dissing you Kingston folk, just wanting the back story on this decision).

nascarxx29

The first US daytona went to Shope motors Huntington Pa.You think it would have been a dealer with a major track in town that got the first one .Going by race on sunday sell on monday motto :Twocents:

It ended up in Kingston because it was the show circuit car. The last show stop was Toronto. The owner of the dealership (In Kingston) was buddies with the Chrysler Zone Rep and made him (begged) sell him the car.
The first buyer of the car was a kid with a bum check. The second was the Doc. I have both warranty cards from the two of them. The car has some very unique things on it and some stuff missing too! Like the wing braces that were never installed.

Maxwell so you are the guy that beat me in the auction. I had inspected the car prior to the auction. I had a envelope bid on the car and also was a telephone bidder so I could up the anny. The day of the auction I was on my way to Charlotte to the Nascar race, 4 guys in a motorhome. Half way through New York state my cell rings (knowing that it was time to bid) and I listened to the live auction, bidding passed my envelope price and I increased my limit by $10000.00 then backed out. I was the last bidder before you got the car. Most wildest auction I've ever done  travelling and on vacation. I was nervous wondering how it would work out being on the road and bidding through my cell. phone. For weeks prior I hoped I would have ended up with this car being I was only 3 hrs away. Congatulations and where are you at with the resto. I would love to see it. Since then I have purchased the Nova Scotia Daytona and am well into my resto. pictures of it have been posted on this site. I have attached a couple of pictures of your car when I went to inspect it. Look familiar. Rob.

maxwellwedge

Sorry about that Rob.  :D

I am doing a clean-up and exterior paint only. The car cleaned up very nicely underneath....especially for a Canadian car. Check out the original dip color and the condition of the bottom.

The exterior paint job(s) were far worse than Creative's!
I bid live on ebay after Terry McCann (aka the maxwellwedge enabler   ) told me about it. He has known it forever and told me it was a good old car. The car is near Stoney Creek awaiting paint. Should be back together in a couple of months maximum. I saw pics of yours...gonna be nice! If you need any pics of any areas let me know.
Cheers,
Jim
