late second gen trans ams are really only worth money with ultra low miles.  if it's super clean you could probably make a couple grand, but values drop off like a stone from the never-driven cars.  lots of them exist with under 5000 miles because people "knew" they were "collector's items."

same goes for the 79 10th anniversary T/A, 78 anniv. vettes and pace car vettes.

you might contact Rick Mclaughlin in WV if you want a quick flip.  He may pick the car up from you.  http://www.transammuseum.com.

Yeah simple math.  I sold cars for years and owned a 80 Turbo Trans Am pace car. It was a great car. All you have to do is check out auto trader mags and eBay and Hemmings and you will have a great idea of retail value.
This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

don't see many on ebay...so they are so so for resale or people hold on to them..so still debating on getting the car to turn and get the dollars to finish the daytona :shruggy:

The GM pony car market is a little soft. I had trouble selling my 79 Trans Am last year and it was a beautiful car. I finally traded it for a 68 Roadrunner that runs and drives but needs a little rust repair and fresh paint. I probably lost a couple of grand in the deal but had decided that I would rather have a mopar sitting in that spot.

I agree birds are real soft right now.  I just sold my 81 Pace Car and they are just not bringing big money. It was a 32,000 mile car in beautiful shape and I got $8500.00 out of her.   I have personally owned close to a dozen 1979-1981 birds and the 80-81 cars are just not bringing big money.  I have passed on several very nice 80 Pace Car Trans Ams for under $8,000.00.  The 301 Turbos are junk, and not very desirable.

Its weird to hear something other than a Superbird being referred to as a "bird".

Look at the ebay ads on these 80 and 81 T/A's  :eek2:

I think they look like they are cheap build back then. The headliners and other interiorparts come of,and the paint ( and/or decals ) fades, and lots of rust issues. The 301 turbo isn't very exiting either, when you compare the big "Turbo TransAm" sticker on the rearspoiler. :shruggy:But then again,i've never owned one,and this is the reason i'll never buy one.
But i got to say i always loved the way they look  :Twocents:

I'm doing the same thing, I just ended up getting a trans am to flip and make some money to pay off a small loan I took out for my challenger rag. I'm painting the guys Catalina in trade for his 79 transam. The transam is pretty clean and original and I'm hoping to get $5k for it :-\.
