So I had some spare time on my hands last night so I decided to make a plexiglass carb top protector for the six pack set up. Basically for when I'm at the shows and want to take the air cleaner housing off to display the carbs. This way I can prevent any foreign debris from entering into the carbs while still being able to let everyone at the shows be able to see the carbs.

What do you guys think?

I think that's a smart thing to do and a good looking way to do it.

Real sweet Kelly! You don't know how many times folks have asked to see my six pack and once they see that big old air cleaner want me to remove it to see the carbs. How/what is the vent from the center carb bowl set up/run to? I changed out my center carb to one of that "vented type" (unlike my original 70 type) and really don't know what to run it to.  :scratchchin:

an interesting post from moparts on the vent tube-

My experience with fuel level problems with six packs have been two different situations. The first is when accelerating hard and then hitting the brakes the fuel would slosh up and out of the center carb vent and 'choke' the engine and try to die. To deal with that I stuck a short piece of vacuum hose (about 1") into the top of the vent tube. The other problem I had was stopping hard, especially while going down hill (we have some steep ones in the Seattle area), a low fuel level would uncover the jets and/or metering ports and the engine would die. To counter that I adjusted the float level up about 1/4 turn at a time until the condition stopped. I have brass plugs as I have had the clear ones go soft after a while and leak fuel onto the hot manifold. I suspect that my center carb float level is above the bottom of the plug but I don't care as it is where it needs to be to solve the downhill problem.

I'm gonna try that 1" vacuum hose thing. interesting solution

Thanks guys.

I really cant take too much credit for it though.

Got the idea from seeing another guy at one of the shows with a superbee that did something like this.

Thought it was a cool idea and so I just dug in and went for it last night.

It really wasnt that hard or expensive to do either. just went down to ace and bought some plexiglass,  stainless steel tubbing, washers, nuts, studs.

all and all about 20-30 bucks worth of material and a couple hours of my time to cut and assemble.

gotta be careful when cutting and drilling the plexiglass though. Stuff is real sensitive to cracking when cutting it. Got to go real slow and low speed with the jig saw.   :2thumbs:

On that style of bowl vent the hose goes to another nipple on the valve cover breather - either a two-nipple (cough) or a three nipple. If you have a single nipple breather you can run a 12" (more or less) hose from the bowl vent and lay it down on the intake.

b5blue

I'm looking at new breathers for my Cal Custom cast aluminum valve covers now. If I can find one that fits and has the right size nipple I should be set then? (I wasn't crazy about venting into the valve cover but if that's what to do, I'll do it!)  :2thumbs: Thanks!

Yep I think that was the one. I really like the way he did his with the real thick plexiglass. Must have been a real pain to cut that though.

Why is it that every pic like that I see of the six packs never get me a real nice angle of where the kick down rod is supose to connect to. Grrrr. I really need to see what that looks like close up
