A buddy of mine is working on his 68 Charger. His grille is in fair shape but seems to have a couple coats of paint on it. How would we go about stripping it?

Soda blast it. Less aggressive than sand blasting which would etch and destroy the plastic. Find a trust worthy soda blaster and it will turn out great. You can also get paint stripper. They make a specific kind for plastic bumpers. Don't use the metal stripper though, too agressive

I used oven cleaner on mine. Use the spray kind with Lye as the active ingredient iirc. It strips off a little but not all the way down to the plastic unless you leave it on for a really long time. Just make sure to wear gloves and do it in a well ventilated area. Scrub it with a junk toothbrush then rinse with water

Thanks guys, he's leaning toward the oven cleaner. Neither of us know a good media blaster around here. Personally, I'd rather do something like this myself instead of trusting it to someone else. Our grilles are just too precious.
