Hi I bought a 68 charger that is mostly stripped. When I got it he gave me a box of parts some trim some engine parts. I don t even know if it came off the car. Im starting to get parts for it 440 and trans out of a newport. So my question is is there a book on all parts and pieces on this car. If you could lead me in the right direction that would be helpful.

Thanks Sid            :shruggy: :shruggy:

Yep, all you need to do is post in this thread what your questions are and the guys here will be all the resources you will ever need.   :yesnod:

See if you can go to some car shows this spring and summer.  Hopefully there will be some chargers there.  Take lots of pictures.  Don't necessarily assume that what they have is factory correct but after you look at a bunch of cars you will begin to know what goes where.  Also, download pictures of cars that members have here.  Some have been downright slavish toward making their cars stock and the pictures they post are a goldmine for folks like you.  Plus the FSM as recommended.  I have been doing all of this since I am making a R/T clone out of a 318 car.  What you are attempting is much harder than just restoring a car that was all there to start with but it can be done and can also be enjoyable if you don't get in a hurry.  The folks on this forum know just about everything there is to know about these cars so if you get stuck, post your question and someone will have the answer.

Hi I found this online it is for a 69 not a 68 do you think this will work?

There is one also for the '68. Get that if you can. We will gently guide you along the path to wellness...oh, and post a pic or two when you get the time.

It wouldn't hurt to get the Parts Book as well. Altogether they are about $90 but the information is invaluable.

Death1970Proof

Great starting point. I bought mine in '07 with no m/t, and the interior was stripped to...but perfect to do what I want to do with it  :icon_smile_big:

Recap: I am restoring a 68 Charger. The guy I bought it from was turning it into a 69.
Question: He put 69 quarter panels on it and the rear tailpanel was cut out. He also put in a new trunk floor. I'm not sure if everything is complete there-on top or underneath. I have pieces in a box that look like gas tank brackets that were cut out with a torch. I'll try to post pics this weekend. I was browsing on ebay for a tail panel and found 69 70 Charger taillight panel reinforcements. Does anyone have any pics of what this looks like inside the trunk so I can see what I need to do? I have nothing to go by as he cut out the tail panel and it's gone. He gave me a fiberglass panel to put in, but I'd rather keep it all metal.
Also, does anyone have any pics of the 69 under the hood where the hood bumpers mount?
Thanks for the help!

Check this out for your 69 tailpanel. www.autometaldirect.com

Those 69 marker light holes could be welded up on the quarter skins and holes could be drilled for the 68 marker lights.  Or, you could go with new full quarters from AMD.   :shruggy:

Here are some pics of my inside trunk. You can see I made metal bumper support brackets. Like I said before, I have nothing to work with. He cut it all out. Where do the rear taillight panel reinforcements go? Is there anything else I'm missing?

Thanks for the help!

The first one mounts underneath the rear bumper behind the rear valence pan and bolts to the frame rails, I think the second one is your spare tire hold down bracket that is supposed to be welded to the inside of the trunk floor. You can see it in this pic.

Thanks for all the great help! I ordered the book NorwayCharger suggested-it should be coming soon. I also got the FSM on CD, thanks Harlandodge. I was going through more boxes and found a few more parts that I'm not sure of. Also, I found the motor mounts-they are for a 383. Will they work for my 440 engine?
Thanks again!
Sid

Looks like the two lower pieces in the top pic are battery tray brackets, I think? If I remember right they mount to the bottom of the battery tray and connect to the inner fender. The rest of the stuff I can't tell from the small pics.
