Power steering box finish and tag

As per the title, would i be correct in assuming the steering box (power) would be black all over? And would that include the date tag?

Really? I was nearly convinced that they were black. Solves the tag problem though.

They could have come either way.

I have done mine in black with white paint running down the side (TQ witness mark from the adjuster nut)

Getting more confusing by the minute. Any ideas on the likely finish on a september 68 build car?

No confusion necessary ;)  Im pretty sure its what was on the shelf that day of assy.

Do you have your original box?   Any traces of black paint?   If not the bare cast iron it should be.....

Sadly some one has painted it blue, and im fairly sure its not the original. So i dont know  ::)

    originaly thought  my original box was  bare metal !  but after  having a good cleen , was  sort of a semi-ish gloss black  :yesnod:  SPD november 22nd 1968  Hamtramck  assembly plant
