Wow, I'm not overly impressed.   The new Challenger looks a whole heap better than that thing...

well, to me, its about time they started making cars look like cars. its been many years since people were REALLY in love with their cars. look how we are in love with our old chargers? and look how old they are. american cars really had it back then. then look what happened in the 80's. cars turned into an apliance. no matter what brand it is, it just would be nice to be able to tell what kind and model car it is from 100 yards away. america needs brand loyalty again. american car sales wouldnt hurt this country either. if that happened, how would we break it to the ricer crowd?     bruce

The concept Chally looks waaaay better than that thing.
That thing looks more like the new 2dr sport Caddy.
......Of couse if they do produce it all the Chevy leg humpers will say it looks sweeeeet as if
GM could do no wrong in a design  ::)

It sucks.

They looked at using the caddy platform but found that it wouldn't be cost effective. Their big deal now is using an assembly line that can be used through the entire model year. With the old f-body, they weren't able to keep the production going and thus it was not cost effective. The camaro will have to share a platform or it will never happen. The Holden version of the GTO is ending...thank god. The next GTO is to be built here in the U.S.. If there is another verson of the firebird, it will be the GTO version for sure. We'll never see another body line as limited as the camaro/firebird series again. GM renewed the Chevelle trademark last year and you can bet they're going to build another car with the chevelle name, possible on this same platform. That would give them at least 4 bodies on this platform. That would be enough to keep the assembly line going year round. Now we just have to wait and see.
Personally, I won't be buying any of these cars, but I love seeing all of the automakers build cool cars. I'll just drive one of my old mopars.

... which is exactly what Chrysler has already done with its cars. Maybe GM isn't so dumb after all.
Sixty-eights look great and the '69 is fine.

Maybe some of you will agree with me on this;

If Chrysler DOESN'T build the Chally, OR bastardizes it like they did the Creeder, then I would buy this before I bought the new Mustang. Don't get me wrong, I'd buy the Chally concept as is, but this Camaro concept doesn't look like a bad alternative to owning a Ferd... And another thing: I'd DEFINITELY buy this Camaro LOOOONG before I'd even consider buying the Creeder...not even a contest there.

Great post. :cheers:

I completely agree, and especially so with this point:

"then look what happened... cars turned into an appliance."

So many things are just throw away items, and the automobile is most definitely on that list.

There have been those few exceptions though. Corvettes have never been considered throw aways, 3000GT's are highly sought after, Gran Nashs, VW Bugs, New Coopers, PT Cruisers, Miatas (for the most part)... It seems as though STYLE has a lot to do with a cars disposability...the cooler the car, the less likely it will be recycled. Maybe THAT is why we see so many UGLY new cars on lots these days...the big 3 KNOW we will be more likely to keep and maintain a cool car no matter HOW old it gets.
