Remember the average response time to a 911 call is over 4 minutes.

The average response time of a 357 magnum is 1400 FPS.

If that tank had exploded everyone would have been dead and half way to hell before the train got stopped. Lucky Lucky!

BNSF must be starting to run through Wisconsin now too. Cause a few weeks ago, 4 of their engines come through town going south on Canadian National's tracks. I think they have they best looking engines right now.

Possibly, we used to get Santa Fe through here, in NH! Or they could have leased the locomotives out to another railroad, that happens alot when other railroads need units.

I just got of a train that was close to hitting 2 trucks today, one was a tanker.

That is all I'm going to say about it; it happens.

To all truckers out there, stop at railroad crossings where trains are near please.

The life you save might be your own.

Pass it on.

Rail companies borrow each others power all the time.
The merger was Oct 1995.

We lost a crew a year ago in Oklahoma when a propane truck pulled in front of a train. I got to see pictures of things afterwards. train rolled another 1/2 mile before it stopped. Blew the side of the cab out and the crews bodys were at the crossing where they hit.

Yeah lol that is a good one! Wow, the Mechanicville yard is coming back? That is awesome! The Rigby yard up in Portland Maine is seeing quite a bit of work done too, they just knocked down the roundhouse and turntable, not sure why though.. I just hope they repaint all the locomotives, I'm so sick of seeing Guilford (F)Rail System black and orange, gawd what aweful colors!

Most of there junk is going down the road anyways. They have a handful with the new paint scheme and alot of rentals and NS power coming across the new "Patriot Corridor". The Mechanicville yard is suppose to be completed by 2011 for intermodals and auto racks. Nothing like the old yard though. When its done supposedly they are going to put an ethanol unloading facility in where they unload the containers now in Albany.

Thats awesome derailed, thanks for sharing that info! Any word on whether the North Billerica shops might get reopened?

I have never heard of a truck like that exploding.  With it full of fuel, wouldn't it just leak and burn?  Like the planes that hit the trade center?  Kim

You are right Kim. A loaded tanker you may stand a chance if you roll through it and stop a ways away. Its the empty gas and loaded propane tankers you have to worry about, especially in the last 15 years or so when they made it mandatory to vent the fuel vapors back into the trailer when unloading. I remember when I was still hauling gas and that law first went into effect encon would have guys hiding in the bushes making sure you were obeying it.
