69 console four speed shifter questions

I am looking for a 69 HURST four speed (console) shifter. I see a few on Ebay. What is the range of prices that you have seen the last year or so? How do I make sure I am getting the correct handle and shifter? Are there ID numbers? Are the A body shifters the same or different than the b body shifters?
Hurst is selling (on E bay) a complete setup (Shifter, knob, handle, rods, levers and mounting pad) all remanufactured for $850. I was thinking that that might be a decent deal. I figure if I spend $200 for the shifter and handle, have the shifter rebuilt ($250),rechrome the handle and buy a shift knob ($200), buy the shift rods and levers ($200?) and all the other misc. parts that they are including, I will be above the $850. Plus, I don't need to ship the stuff out to be redone. I could buy it, and it will be all ready to bolt on.
What do you guys think?

If you need it to be spotless maybe the $850 is the way to go. If it were me, I'd wait to get a used shifter and get the rebuild parts if it is worn and have the handle chromed but that's just me. :Twocents:

I am not sure what way I am going to go yet.
Typically what kind of prices have you seen on used shift handles and shifters?

Bought the shifter, handle, and 18 spline hemi 4 speed with bellhousing for $450 that is in my car. That was quite a while ago now. Shifter works fine but the handle needed chroming for around $70 I think.

A bodies are not the same BTW. You need a B body shifter. Also, the Hurst script changed a little at some point between '68 and '69 but functionally they are the same.

I am going to look at a used Hurst shifter mech today and buy some 4 speed pedals for my '68 so I will let you know.

Wow $450 sounds like a great deal. I never really took note of what these shifters were going for, because I didn't have a need for one. I am looking for one now but I am not sure of the price range.
Thanks for your input.

I have seen the console handles alone go for 300-500 depending on the seller and condition - so the deal above is a screaming one!

Paid my Hurst 69 correct shifter handle a little over 325 dollar that was somewhere a year ago in very good condtion. Means you can see it's been used but the chrome is still perfect.....

mid-'68 & '69 "HURST" console levers are usually $200-400 for b-bodies, a-bodies are about double.

BREWER's sells a reproduction b-body console lever without "HURST" lettering.

The single line "HURST" lettering appeared sporatically during the mid-'68 thru '69 run.

Do you have pictures to show the difference in HURST lettering? So either single or double line lettering is correct for a '69?

Some pictures of my stick........

BTW the 800 deal is a great one I paid 800 bucks for my 18 spline box (altough in excellent condition it will need a minor rebuild and new paint)
I paid another 300 for my 69 correct 11" bellhousing.
So that means I still need the shifter itself with connecting rods. But hey it's money well spend since these cars are like porn with a 4 gear in it...

EDIT : if you take a close look at the second picture you'll see the single line lettering

Here is the add. If I were closer it would not still be available.  ;)

I heard from the seller. He said it is not an 18 spline trans. It is a 23 spline. He said he counted. He said it is the original trans. out a 68 R/T. I offered to buy the shifter and bellhousing. The owner said he wanted to sell it all together.

I doubt it was an R/T with a 23 spline...

Agreed! He insisted it was. I wasn't going to try to correct him.

I'd pick it up all togther if I were you.
Keep the trans as a spare or resell it. Or when you know how to, rebuild and restore it and then sell it and make some money out of it....... :Twocents:

six-tee-nine,
I considered buying the whole package. The problem is getting it from Tx. to Ct. I can get a shipping crate built to hold the trans. that would cost me $75 plus the cost to ship it to TX. I figure at least $100 to ship the trans. and maybe another $50 to get the bellhousing and shifter shipped. To me it is not worth all the added expense. If it was a Hemi 4 speed trans. I would have had it sitting in my garage already.
Plus, I am not there to inspect the gears so I don't know what I am getting.
You can buy it if you want. I have already passed on it.

I can understand your point.....

No need for me to get it, my 18 spline is laying on the shelf ready to get placed behind fat stroker 440 :D :D that'll be alot of fun
