'68 4-speed; ID # stamped on stock bellhousing?

I have a number-matched '68 440 and 4-speed. I have a lakewood bellhousing, and the stock BH is 99% likely non-recoverable. Was that bellhousing matched to the engine and transmission?

I don't think so. The partial vin was stamped (sometimes   ) on early build '68 blocks and transmissions, but mostly on the later build blocks and transmissions (see http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,38316.0.html); there is no hard and fast rule on when it started and why. If someone has a documented case on bellhousing stamping I would enjoy hearing about it.

A '68 4-speed car with a partial VIN would have the number stamped in the raised pad on the main transmission case just like the '69 and later, only automatics got the side-by-side VIN on the top.

yes, the engine and transmission case are both stamped, I was just torturing myself over whether losing the bellhousing broke a set.
