Hey all! I am Roy(23) and I am new to the forum. I have registerd on a few forums because I am on a mission to get my 68 Charger my dad gave me running.

Ok well I have purchased a late model 440, ok well the engine was rebuilt, but I am not sure if it was rebuilt to stock spec. And from what I hear, later 440's have very low CR, but then I hear others saying even the early 440s didn't have the advertised CR except the six pack engines. So I was going to have someone check the CR ration on the block and see how deep the pistons are in the hole. just in case the motor has very low CR, will it be possible to just change pistons if the block was rebuilt before and cylinder walls look good? I am trying to avoid spending Too much money since I am on a budget build. I would like CR at around 9.0:1 - 9.5:1. I will be running 906 heads Ported and Polished, ports and pockets ported out full length, multi angle valve job, blended stock 2.08 intake and ex 1.74 valves, hardened seats, seals replaced new hp springs max .575 Lift, 130 psi seat press 330 at .500 lift deck milled .020 to 82cc open chamber.

Welcome! You will find alot of great tips here to help you along and alot of great people to. Post some pics of your ride! As far as the pistons go, if your engines bore is good and strait you stand a good chance of just changing them to fit. They still need to be sized in though as not all pistons are the same, even in the same box.... Other things need to be considered like the balance and such. I pulled down a 77 440 the other day and the stock pistons were .80 down on one side .88 on the other. So you might want to check both sides so you can adjust the deck height if need be.

Roy, Welcome to the site brother... The later 440's are easy to bring the compression back in, as all you generally need is the SIX-PACK pistons...

It would depend on whether or not the Block was machined (Decked) or not as to piston to deck height after the swap...
