not coming home from a combat zone- a car guy story

During the course of a year we do hundreds of car stories and we try to focus on the human side of the equation-this one really drove that point home.
This kid loved his 68 Cuda and thought about it all the time-even while serving in Afghanistan.
Everybody can relate to this story on some level, but car guys would sure get the significance of the car and its importance as a symbol of home.

I am a combat vet. Medically retired in Feb 94. One of my soldiers C.A. Cash died in Iraq Feb27th 1991. I think what this kids dad is doing can not be put into words. Great Job Jim!

Not often you hear a story like that about a Canadian soldier.
And I have connections to this story in many ways.

I also serve in the Canadian Forces.
We both have '68 Barracuda fastbacks.
I knew his father back when I was posted to Shilo.
He died when my wife was in Afghanistan, working in the operating room at Kandahar. No doubt she worked on him.

I just hope that one day the Afghan people will be capable of dealing with those Taliban bastards.
Until then, I hope we don't loose any more young soldiers who are there to help them protect their country.

9/03 is my birthday. 

The U.S. gets all the press in Afghanistan, most people don't have any idea how many other countries have forces over here and lose their kids too. The British and Danish forces have lost more soldiers per capita than anyone else, last I knew.
