The first one I had I remember clearly because it was a rainy day when I brought it home so I moved my mothers car to the driveway and brought the Charger into the garage where I began to detail it.  It sticks out because no one, ever, undy any circumstances was allowed to drive my mothers car (no one of course meaning only me, my brother and sister were allowed to use it whenever they wanted ::) )

Mr.Woolery

Went inside, ate dinner, and went to bed.  It was a long two days' roadtrip driving there, picking it up, and trailering it home.

changed to oil and antifreeze, tuned it up and the went for a ride.

After an 80+ mph blast, I looked at the old radials that were on it and realized I neve should have driven so fast....the sidewall had some dry rot.

Well I was 15...    So I only had my learner's permit - but my father let me drive it home (about a 45 minute drive) on the freeway and then I just parked it in the back yard and then went to my friends house later and bragged i had bought one.   :eyes:

Man, that was a long time ago. But I do remember once I got it home I just took it all in visually, the interior, the body, and under the hood. Then started checking things, and cleaning it. Then set in it for a while, then took it out for a drive.

After getting home with my B5 69 R/T in 98 I threw it in the garage and went to sleep, long day of traveling and trailoring.

Getting home with my 3x9 69 R/T SE,Jan 08,cleaned it up and searched for the BS.(did'nt find). It was quite the adventure getting that one too, crossing the LI sound!!!!

Staired at it... opened door... got a nice smell of 'old car' sat in it.... gently placed hands over the steering wheel, slid hands around it to get a feel, turned head to the right slightly, looked down at the white ball of the hurst 4 speed, took right hand off wheel and placed it over the hurst 4 speed.... reminiscining some more.... pressed the clutch pedal with my left foot, touched the buttons on the dashboard, smiled... took a deep breath, got out of the car and said 'wow'.

What's the 1st thing you did when you got your Charger home?  Hide from my wife.

Actually kinda funny. I told the wife I was going to buy a Hemi Orange 71 Charger SE for only $1,200.00 that ran (October 95). The car was filthy, looked dark orange with brown spots, half the lights worked, was sporting Pontiac hub caps :eek2:. I was stopped at a red light on the was home, it was now dark, the wife passed thru the intersection bringing our neighbor to work. The neighbor said "OMG, look at the hideous looking car", my wife replied, Brian said he was going to buy an old car tonight, it better not be that thing. You can imagine her dismay when she pulled into our yard.

I parked the car in the driveway and went to sleep. Got home late after flying into Great Falls, Montana and leaving at 10 at night to drive back to Minneapolis, MN. Had electrical trouble on the way in. We drove the last 60 miles in the dark behind vehicles so we could shut the lights off. We would turn them on when we were left out in front by traffic exiting the freeway, then glide back behind another vehicle and turn them off until they exited the freeway and so on.  :icon_smile_big:

When I bought my charger I didn't have a house I was renting so it continued to sit behind my Grand mothers house where my brother parked it. It sat there for 3 more years (he had it there for 3 years before selling it to me) When I bought my house we pulled it there with a rope and pushed it into the garage and I let it sit there for 12 more years before pushing it out.

had a 2 hour drive back in the rain at night , got it home and into the garage , called my wife to come and have a look and cracked a cold beer and spent the next hour or so climbing all over it and congratulating myself/ourselves  ;D . wife was pretty impressed tho, and neighbours the next day were also  :drool5:

Rolled it off the trailer, put my hand on the steering wheel through the window, and with the aid of family and friends pushed it into a temporary resting place outside of the garage.
After this it's just a blur of economic angst, doubting my own sanity and   :hah: "I own a CHARGER! WOHOO! Is it badass or what?!"

The thing that I vividly remember though, is sitting by the trailer parked outside a burger joint about 10 minutes after picking it up. Even like that, a bucket strapped to a trailer with decidedly untrick 14" hubcapped steelies, a brushed-on blue paintjob (right front panel in primer) and rust up to the rear turn signal lights, people driving by slowed down to gawk and point. Gotta love stuff like that!

Mark brought her home...since it was a short trip he carried her on the open bed trailer. He had all kinds of thumbs up getting home...left her sit on the trailer until the next day then pulled forward dropped the car and pushed her to the side of the garage...still had the race car in the bay. MAN is that one heavy car! Thank God the next time we moved the car two of the boys were up here. Then we took pics!

First thing I did on my '70 was to undo the "improvements" to cooling that the PO had performed that made it overheat, put all stock components on and cured that.

Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

'68 - I was 16. All I did was stare at it for a week in awe.  :o   Couldn't believe I finally had the car of my dreams, even though it was a pile. Many good times spent after that with my dad & younger brother fixing it up.

'70 - It was unloaded off the truck, I drove it around my block once, and pulled it into the garage. Then, I promptly proceeded to remove the 4 mudflaps the previous owner had on it.  :eek2:

'69 - 3 trips with the truck & trailer, it was finally home. I asked myself, "Where the 'F' do I BEGIN???" My wife said, "Eh, it doesn't look that bad." Yeah, sure honey.  :D

Pushed it up into the garage, pulled out a lawn chair, opened a few beers, turned the radio on loud and just began to stare at it with a shit eating grin on my face, according to my wife. She told them that I would be ok, gave them $5 for ice cream from my wallet and told them if I wanted to know who told them they could have the money, tell me that I said it was ok when they gave me beer.

First thing I did was fix my mom's garage!

Car was towed to my mom's house by the seller on a trailer. He backed up into the driveway and the car got loose when we were unloading it. It rolled down the trailer, up the driveway, and smashed through the space separating the two garage doors. Didn't even scratch the Charger. The seller, feeling guilty, helped me out.

I guess it was eager to stake out a claim in my mom's garage. It was then a matter of making the car run...

Wow, great stories here.  My story is not ground breaking by any means.  As I was coming home with it from the shipper location, my wife came outside with the 2 big kids to see dads all time dream car.  The kids could care less and acted that way.  That 's it.   keep in mind I had a wake up call of problems ahead.  After buying it site unseen, well just go here and read it yourself.  Grab a beer, it'll be a long read.   http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,34954.0.html     The end of the story is awesome, as that's how the car turns out after nothing more than lot's of money and sweat ( and stress ). :icon_smile_big:

The poor quality picture is right when I picked it up at the carrier lot.  The odd look on my face ( is me saying HELP ) is because the driver guy just told me the brakes went to the floor, the battery was dead, and I had a 1/2 hour drive on a main highway to get home.  Then I learned when I closed the door and the upper door pad flew off, and the car over heated and vibrated all the home ( 4:11's  ), that I was in for some serious work.  Aahh no big deal.  Honestly, no regrets, I'm a proud owner of a 69 Charger R/T SE. :coolgleamA: :2thumbs:

This car was sold many years ago to somebody in Wisconsin. I now am retired and living in Florida.

Musicman

As you should be... it's a great car and you put a lot of work into it to get it there.... so you can be proud of both the car and it's owner :2thumbs:

Tilar

First thing I did with my 68 was try to get it running. It was originally a 318 car and the guy I bought it off of pulled the 318 and dropped in a 400 from a Cordoba but could never get it running. Turns out the timing chain slipped so I moved the distributor enough to make it run long enough to hear that it also had a rod knocking. So since I never really cared for the 400 I shut it off, went inside and opened a cold Michalob.

I left the 73 on the trailer for a couple days... Just to be sure everyone that came over saw it.

THE STIG

I was in a bit of a hurry. The Wife went with me to get it and then followed me home, we only had a small window of time to get the car, get it home and get down town for a wedding she was dragging... I mean I could'nt wait to attend. The tires were pretty well dry rotted and the timing was off so I was nursing it through the "hoods" of Indianapolis. When I got back down to my end of town I noticed some old dude staring at me, not being used to this I was about to tell him he's number one in sigh language when I remembered that I was in a cool car and he was just checkin it out so I waved and he just kept staring. When I finally got home I tried to back it in to the garage when I heard (and felt) a thud, I tried again successfully and quickly went to check the back of the car where I had bumped the side of the garage, there was no damage and I breathed a sigh of relief then I want to check the siding and noticed a dent, oh well.

I was looking for a 70 or 71 Torino, I already had a 429 to drop in, I happened to stop by a junkyard in Concord NC, they didn't have a Torino, but they had an old Charger. I had walked right by the car, hadn't noticed it. It was overgrown with cudzu. Went back and found it, It was a 73 SE, The roof had been stood on, it was pushed down a little. She was a triple green car, and complete, sitting on flat ralley wheels. Talked about the price, agreed $500.00, plus $75 to deliver, They made no promise that the motor was good, and told me that it most likely was bad.  I gave a $250.00 deposit, bought a set of weld wheels for $100.00. I sold the welds later that afternoon for $300.00.
I went back a week later, Paid the balance, put a set of rollers on it. The charge was deliverd the next day. I washed it, pulled the carpet, the floors are okay, needs work. and then I sat in it for a while. spent a week changing fluids, wires, and stuff like that, added a fresh battery, and with a gas can on the fender, tried to start it. The 318 started on the 2nd try, runs good. A few days later, went for a drive around the block, the trans is a little weak. The car has been in paint jail ever since.
