I for one hope this technology gets working

The Pentagon says it's not out of the realm of possibility.
We're talking about teleportation. What Captain Kirk and his "Star Trek" crew accomplished in virtually every show. Modern man vanishing in Washington and reappearing seconds later in Tora Bora, or wherever else he might need to go.
Fueled by private research in Austria and Italy verifying quantum teleportation (transferring properties of one quantum particle to another, regardless of distance), Uncle Sam has been examining this previously unthinkable mode of transportation.
And why stop with one being? Why not beam entire troop divisions and their tanks to distant places -- or even galaxies? Sound impossible?
Not to the military minds at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, home of stealth and laser technology, and researchers at Edwards Air Force Base in California, which last year completed the Air Force Teleportation Physics Study -- detailing theoretical methods leading to the physical teleportation of objects and people.
Yesterday, Inside the Beltway reviewed the U.S. military's special report on the study, in which lead author Eric W. Davis praises Edwards Air Force Base Air Force Research Laboratory senior scientist Dr. Franklin B. Mead Jr. for his "professionalism and excellent rapport with 'out of the box' thinkers, [which] excites and motivates serious exploration into advanced concepts that push the envelope of knowledge and discovery."
And tomorrow evening a press conference will be held to announce the results of the first private-sector analysis of the military's study, specifically examining post-September 11th national security implications. Speakers will appear -- arriving on foot, for now.

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Teleportation, unlike time travel, IS physically possible. The question is, can an individual's  entire personality and memory be teleported with the physical body? Or, will the end product become a zombie, after being teleported?

Instead of transporting troops into hostile territory why not just transport the hostile enemies into outer space and watch their heads pop?

Anyone here heard of the USS Philadelphia  (sp)

dkn1997

I watched a tlc or discovery special on time travel, which I consider not any more impossible than teleporting.  They said it would take a ridiculous amount of energy to do, something like 10, 000 x the energy of our sun.

not happening.

but still so cool to think about

Would they pop or freeze first?

We could teleport Anna Nicole Smith into Afghanistan.  She can sniff out a dyeing millionare a hell of a lot better than our military!

Well,   I dont think it would work (as in transport a person and that person be all there)

if it physically worked, I think you would end up with a dead person.   I was just thinking if you believe that death occurs when the soul is seperated from the body, well that would really seperate your soul from your body, thus death.   What is let of your body may or may not be intact, but what would happen to your soul?

Did I say I dont think it would work for people?

Seriously though, I thought someone actually transported some matter a few years ago.
They said that they would start working on getting the technology to a point where it could handle more complex formation of matter - like living beings.
