Why doe's this happen, every time I get out of my truck as soon as I touch the door to close I get a shock. Is there a way to stop this ?
Thanks.

Happens to me every time too its because you actually slide out of the seat, building static, and when you touch the door you ground yourself.

I try to shut the vehicle door without touching any metal (with my elbow or on the part of the glass near the frame where it's held rigidly) and then before I grab the door to the house or wherever I'm entering, I put the metal portion of the key between my bare fingers and touch it lightly to the metal frame of the building door.  It will ground you out without shocking you.  A lot of times you can even see a spark jump from the tip of the key to the door frame.

Spray some static guard on the seat and or floor.    :2thumbs:

Hold on to a piece of metal that's grounded to the chassis as you slide across the seat. (harder to do with modern "plastic fantastic" vehicles)
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

When you get out with your key in your hand, use it to touch the metal to discharge. Kim

Fabric seats in the company truck I drive. Seams when the weather is drier and warmer it's a problem, wright now it's not. I hold on to the metal part of the door as I get out and put my foot on the ground, that seems to help.

Grab ahold of the metal door frame or something metal on the car before your feet hit the ground. I had a Lumina that would shock me everytime I got out of that thing unless I grabbed the metal around the window before I got out.. Be sure to NOT let go until you close the door.

Fabric softener (liquid) helps reduce these shocks. Mix a little in some water and keep a squirty bottle handy

:iagree: This one is cheap and works well. I use it at home on the carpet to keep the static down.

I do the same thing a few others have suggested here: Get out of the truck and hold your keys by the fob or some non-metallic part of them and lightly whack them against the outside of the door. Discharged.

Yes, touch the frame, door portion before you get out. I had this problem with rental cars :brickwall: Knock the fire out of me until i found out to touch the door frames. Now I still do it with out even thinking as a habit. Then always touch the car again before you start putting gas in. :slap: My Dad on his old Chrysler 300 had those nifty back in the day grounding straps that hung down at the back of the car. I haven't seen any of those in ages.. ;)

Those ground straps will improve your radio reception as well won't they?  Of course, aren't they also bad in a lightning storm?

I always thought those straps were for if you had an afro they would keep the static down when the fro rubbed the headliner. Now they just lean the front seat back till it hits the back seat...but then again fros are not that common anymore :smilielol: Just kidding guys  :D
