Hi to all the forum users.
I am an Aussie with a collection of local Australian built mopars and I also own a 1971 dodge charger in the glorious Hemi orange color. I am planning to visit your fine country in April 2010.

I was planning to arrive in LA in early april and make my way around the country and arrive in Carlisle PA for the spring swap meet on the 21st.

I guess the purpose of this post is to say hello but also learn from fellow dodge charger enthusiasts.
In that vein does anybody on the forum recommend other shows and events in april 2010 that would be a worthwhile visit for a fellow mopar enthusiast from down under.

Total time in North America is 28 days.
I was planning to do the touristy things because my wife is traveling with me, so a trip to Niagara falls is on the cards, and they tell me that they are better to see from the canadian side so I was planning to pop over the border but not tour far around canada, as your country is as large as mine and it deserves a proper visit.

So are you taking route 66 on your trip east?

How about a stop at the grand cayon?  That will blow your mind.

welcome to the site!!! love to get a chance to see your charger.  April is a lean month from mid and northern states due to the temp's.... south states may have something though.

Yes sure will, the wife wants to see vegas, and so Hoover dam and the Grand Canyon are on the agenda.
We will be flying to the east coast.

Hi thanks for the welcome, my charger is an SE and I hope to get some pics on here when I get a chance to wash it. It is pretty hot and dusty here at the moment hovering in the mid to high 90's all week.

Hi thanks for the tip, i will make sure I make it to the weekend CPW club swap and show.

I am a bit of a swap meet junkie, and as such I have always wanted to visit carlisle even before I owned a dodge, and although I know I'll have to troll thru 7 chevy and 4 ford swap sites for every mopar seller for me it is still worth the visit.

Where are you in Austrailia, anywhere near Melbourne? Ever been to the Austrailian Grand Prix? That's one of the stops on the F1 calendar I've always wanted to get to.

Classic boy

Yes i do live near Melbourne, in a rural town approximately 1 hour north. I too love the F1 GP's but I have never been to my home GP I was planning to do so this year but family commitments and preparing my home for when I am away on holidays   (1 month touring in the US) put paid to my spare time. Maybe next year I'll get there.

I hear ya there I missed a couple of USGPs here in Indianapolis in the 7 years they came here and I live  only about 15 miles away. Enjoy your trip to the U.S. if your going to be anywhere near Indiana maybe we can get together and have a beer. And on that topic don't drink any Foster's while your here, several years ago a brewery in Canada or somwhere began brewing under license and my dad says it's not as good as Aussie brewed they used to import here.

Keep us posted on the trip to Canada. I can take you on a nice wine tour and find a nice spot for dinner - maybe at one of the wineries or even the culinary institute at the college. (Really amazing food and great wine pairings with each course.)

Hi again,
leaving on Sunday to head over to the US.
I am considering buying a US mopar to ship back home to Aussie whilst I am over in your fine country.
How in the US can I check that a car has a clear title and the person selling the car is the actual owner of the car?
In Australia I can take the vin number or the current (license) registration number to the state registration bureau and for a small fee they can provide a report outlining ownership info and whether there is any outstanding finance.
Does the same system apply in most states of the US?

There's a huge 4 day show/swap meet in Charlotte NC at Charlotte Motor Speedway next week, April 8-11. I'll be there on Friday. There's a fair representation of Mopars, but mostly Chevy and Ford. There's an auction too.

Gday Mate!

Sorry I could not resist...I am sure you get that a lot.  Good friends of mine are from New Zealand and my grandfather did some time in your neck of the woods a few decades ago.

Glad to here your doing a trip around the country.

If your in the midwest near the end of the month here's the decent shows/swaps worth checking.

1.  April 18th - Larry Roesch Chrysler Show & Swap in Elmhurst, Illinois, at Larry Roesch Chrysler, Dodge, & Jeep
2.  April 24th & 25th - Spring Jefferson Show & Swap in JEfferson County, Wisconsin,  http://www.madisonclassics.com/ (I highly recommend a trip to Jefferson for anyone really.  It is an all makes show, but the size and range of products and services are impressive)

If your near me your always welcome to swing by and shoot the breeze.  Always love talking 3rd gen chargers and theres quite a few in our area.

If you are interested in buying you definitely want to make sure the car has a title to it.  It is a physical document that the owner must sign in order to turn over to a new owner.  It is usually very official looking like a license and has a watermark from where ever state the title is held.  It will have the VIN of the vehicle and the current owner info usually typed on the title.  Some states are not as strict about titles and will allow a bill of sale for a transfer of ownership.  It then depends on your home country in how that is handled.  I do know that Wisconsin will not even talk to you if you do not have a valid title so it is very important.  There are some services offered out there that are able to get a title with just a bill of sale, but I can not comment further as I have never had to use one.

Good luck to you mate and I hope you enjoy your visit!

Why the heck weren't you at Chryslers On the Murray this year.....I'm tipping your Charger has a 360 in it....is that right ?

If it is, I can tell you that it was the side on profile of your car that made me decide I wanted a 71 Charger, many years ago.

When I imported my car, I used Schumacher Cargo out of L.A and they even picked it up from Minnesota with minimal fuss. I also put some spare parts in the car to come over in the container. Trouble is you'll have to get an import permit from the Aussie Govt. and I'm assuming you might not have done that yet. In that case, I guess if you purchase a car, leave it someowhere till you get back and then arrange it all.

Hi Peter
I unfortunately have a family reunion almost every year on that weekend so it is rare for me to make COTM.
With regard to the car purchase I have a colleague who does the moving of vehicles and boats all the time from the US he also uses a company in LA, he will do all the shifting & paperwork etc.
Regards David
