yeah i'm comfused about them C500s & which ones were stolen ! one was supposed to be really striped & became the 88 daytona &  one was  striped of just the motor ?  , wernt there another according to hot rod , stolen  another road test car   an Auto , or am i getting mixed up with something else

For some reason I thought the automatic car was the one that was stolen.  Danny will know for sure though.  The four speed car is still around, that much I know.

Doug, I'll check to see if I have a copy of the letter from Hot Rod about the 110610 car or not. The letter was addressed to Mike Russo and it was in response to a question about the damage on the side of the car. It had a little statement about how one of the members of Hot Rod had grazed a pole in a parking lot and how they had repaired and repainted that section of the car before returning it to Chrysler. I know I saw it when I was looking at the car before the current owner bought it, and have seen it 3 times since then. Oddly enough I don't know if I took a photo of it or not. 110610 was down at Talladega by the way this year. HEMI 4 speed car, black interior with cloth insert seats, power windows, and a white tail stripe. Very nice car.

The car that was stolen and that I link to Cotton that later went to Creative and then back to Cotton, and then was sold to a gentleman who lives not too far from Cotton's shop was also R4 red HEMI, black interior with cloth insert seats, and a white tail stripe but not the same car as mentioned above. There was also an identical car to the two mentioned above that was a HEMI AT car and that car has not moved since 1974 I believe. Its gathering a bit of dust, but still a very nice car in its own right. And in my opinion it is the one that Bud Lindeman beat the tar out of in the video as its clear that it wasn't one of the 4 speed cars.

It's hard to belive that historically significant muscle still comes out of barns. You'd die just to find a real Six-Barrel Superbird, much less a car that Chrysler gave away to Richard Petty. All the paint and panels are original. Before the car was stripped, the quarter -panels were sketched on CAD to ensure that the lettering can be redone exactly as it was.>

Our friend Steve Atwell is a world-renowned Hemi race-car guy, but in his midlife crisis he's starting to expand his horizons. We guess his new Prudhomme '70 Cuda Funny Car is technically a Hemi car, but he also just bought a Ford lightweight. And even though Steve is technically a Dodge guy, he hasn't been able to pass up a few good Plymouths that came his way. One of them is this interesting Superbird.

When Steve got the call that there was a 'Bird up in Lansing, Michigan, that had been in a garage since 1976, he thought he probably needed it-but knew for sure when he found out it was a 440+6 car with a Pistol Grip four-speed and the Super Track Pak option. The owner had picked it up for $2,500, driven it for a while, then parked it.

I love how they captioned the pic "Cuda". Super Track Pak? Ahhh - Those crazy Hot Rod guys!

Getting back to the Hot Rod road test cars:

Reading page 41 of the Feb. 70 issue of HR reveals:

"Each 500 in use for this test was hemi-equiped. Three of 'em were readied for us, but we used only two.    One of them, the first four speed car, was "borrowed" (by person or persons as yet not convicted) and most of the parts liberated.    Due to this unexpected car loan (that's not what the police termed it), we spent most of our time with the automatic car."    

Sounds like there were TWO 4 speed cars, with "the first four speed car" being the stolen car.  The second apparently still exists. (per dodgecharger.com info)
And they say automatic CAR, not cars....         So they had 3 hemi cars total, 2 were sticks and one was an auto.
Makes sense...   Here is where it gets good.

AND they DID test BOTH the remaining stick car and auto!     Three were readied, but "we used only two".  (since one was quickly stolen!)  So they used 2 cars, and got results for a manual and automatic.   The conclusion is 2 stick cars and one auto.

The Doc Tona also a daytona of importance it was mentioned in Mighty mopars by author Anthony Young .As the first daytona and that it went to Kingston Ontario Dodge Canada.Preceding the daytona shiplist that was years later introduced that contained same info.The distinqiushing features are the lack of wing braces and slanted daytona letters

As Hot Rod Feb 70 &  69 Car life tested 69 500s.Theres a few other 69-70 magazines I can recall that had used 69 500s as in the link..Another magazine I had a roadtest with a Hemi 4 speed 69 500 was original purchasing owner Dick Delefino.Another test 500 car was in Hot Rod February 1969.

Your correct Doug, actually both the HEMI 4 speed that was tested by Hot Rod and the AT that was tested by them both still exist and are accounted for. The 4 speed car was at Talladega this year at the show and did a lap on the track to boot. Very nice car.

Not sure on this didnt find the magazine .I think D Delfino car was in a NY based magazine hot cars or musclecars.It was a Hemi 4 speed .Not exact what color it mentioned .But I think it said thought it sounds odd but purple was mentioned.Also found this

Personally I don't think the EPA car contributed much if anything to the "death" of the muscle car, since it was from 1970 and car companies were already planning/prototyping a couple of model years forward. I do believe it probably did a lot of tests on airplane emissions and freeway particulates with results that are still used today.

The Christopher George car, from the studio publicity stills was a dark exterior color with white stripe, dark interior, Hemi, 15" wheel cover, sometype of radio car. On the publicity stills the front grill frame had been chromed in 1969. I wonder where this car is now? I've also wondered if this car has been mistaken for the Robert Gouliet car? Since there has been correspondence published that first Robert Gouliet had a Daytona, then later published that He didn't have a Daytona, folks want to think that a movie/recording star had a Daytona. There are a number of pictures of Christopher George posing next to a Hemi Daytona. Could someone decades ago have gotten the last name George and Gouliet mixed up? Christopher George is dead, but someone in the know could probably get in contact with someone who knew Christopher George or was associated with the 1 year TV series.

The car used in the Christopher George publicity stills is a completely different car than the one in your shot. It is a DARK color, exactly as factory delivered except for the chromed front grill.

Theres been some daytonas known with chrome grill frame .The Machado car shows as a performance show car.And had a chrome frame Also the earlier thread said Dean Jeffries knew about the car to be featured in future MCG issue.Car might have been customized to look better on tv?

I recall the immortal show only ran for so many weeks .I have the old 69 TV guides looking up episodes.I think the show might be on the sci fi channel then and now
