Color dilemma

[Silver R/T]

So my car originally is AA1 silver, however I like many other colors. It's just so hard to decide which color to paint it but I like some reds ie Tor Red, then some blues esp blue Mica's that are out on new cars. I saw "daytona" today and it looked nice in that Tor Red, really makes me want to paint my Charger that color. I like other silvers as well, stock AA1 looks just kind of plain gray to me.

Properly polished up and in the right light it will hardly look like any gray you've ever seen.

There were many worse colors than silver back then. If mine had been silver from the factory I would gladly have stuck to that rather than the baby-poop green mine was.

I'll go against the grain here, sorry not a fan at all of silver. EVERY new car and truck I see is silver. It's WAY too common and it's just plain boring to me (if silver isn't boring, tell me what you think a boring colour is then?). My wife put's it best "It's just a grey car". Whenever grey is present, it needs colour. Spice it up! Go with a colour. I know red and orange are common and overdone in a way too, but it's better than silver.

Silver with a black top black rump strip, very nice. Also not to many factory silver cars, like the Q5s. If I ever get a 68 would love it to be silver.

Look at it this way...if he goes with another colour, the next guy who buys it can restore back to original...and that could be you!

Silver does look good in the sun but so do many other colors. I kinda wish it was non R/T and puke green from factory, I really wouldn't feel bad about changing color then.

If you do not like it, please consider trading for a car you do like vs. painting it something else.

I tend to agree the 68 silver is a bit gray.   I'm not much of a purist so I'm not gonna yelp about original colors because after all there's so many more choices now.   It's not even like you've got a choice about using the original formula / blend of paint anymore since it's probably illegal and unless you're personally stuck on staying stock color or building a trailer queen there's no need to limit yourself.



Personal preference... even the legendary Silver Bullet was painted with corvette silver (68 IIRC) - let your conscience be your guide.

Unless you are going for 100% original, Paint it any color that will make you feel good when you sit behind the wheel. Don't paint it any color that later on you are going to wish you had picked a red or blue. If you are hesitant about it now, It's a lot of work and expense to change it to what you wanted in the first place later down the road... Just my

You have the factory silver and don't want it, yet most Charger owners would love to have it.

My car is that fugly '68 gold (if any gold '68's look nice, it is probably not factory gold, and if folks say "nice car", it is the car they are talking about, not the color)

I would give my left one for a silver car.  Yeah, I could paint it that color, but why add another silver car to the road, that is not original?

T3 for me and it's not getting that color again as long as I own it. I plan on using Q5 or something similar(read cheaper). If my Charger was originally silver I would keep it that way as I like that color on them, just not as much as Q5.

i agree with the not having to stick to a stock 68 color, i think a 2nd gen would look great in MAUVE

I do agree with the statements about selling it to someone who really wants a silver one. I am looking for an F8 R/T. Now, we all know that 99% of them are red/orange/lime/blue right now, right? I worked in a body shop and not at all interested in colour changing a car back to original, so of course I'm thinking in my head (everytime I see one of the green cars changed over)..."Why didn't he just sell it as a green car to me and get the one he wanted?" Right? We've all thought that at some point. I'm just simply not a fan of wasting both time and money, and that what I see here. Just get another one and get on with life. Remember, 68 Chargers aren't 'rare', there were lots of them made, the problem is finding one for sale, that's all. The point is, your exact car is out there, FOR YOU, and maybe there is someone looking for YOUR CAR too!

My 69 is originally B7 "hey lady, did you call a plumber" blue.  It was silver when I bought it.  I considered a deep red, but, I repainted it AA1 a couple of years ago. My memories were attached to a sliver charger not a red one. (I liked AA1 more than A4 and I thought I wold try to stay "period" if I couldn't bare to stay original)

Anyway, AA1 has a lot of grey, which really brought out the black.  It limited me to either a black stripe OR a black vinyl top.  Both of them, combined with the tires,  was IMO not pretty.  Since I'm a "delete" the emblems did the job with the top and the red is a nice accent.  

If you want the black top and black stripe, which is a great looking combo, go lighter but stay metallic.

My pics don't do the color justice.  The flash with the newer concrete floor sucks the life out of it.  But, let me know if you would like a few.

I'd like to see that too. My Dad has a 1966 Chrysler Windsor in mauve. Nice colour! Only looks good repainted though, when it fades it just looks like grey.

I dunno....B5 blue is nice.....not much of a silver fan here
