Hey guys,
New to the forum but been reading for a while now.  Recently purchased my first project car and what better choice than a 72 charger.  I know some people would rather tell me to get a 360 than help me with my question but I'm keeping the 318, for now.

What I have so far:

750 eddy carb (i know it's big but it seems a lot of people have made this work, may reconsider going to 600cfm)
HVH 4 hole 1 inch spacer
eddy air gap manifold
302 casting heads (porting runners myself, then getting 1.88/1.60 valve job)
shorty headers
full dual exhaust
stock pistons and crank

What would be the best cam for this setup?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

IMO
The 340 Resto Cam from Comp Cams makes an great "performance" stick in the 318.
It works excellent for all around FUN Street stuff :2thumbs:
Check it out
Part #20-309-4

Use the 340 Single W/Damper Valve Springs or comp equivalent part #901-16

Thanks!

Any mods to valves needed going this route?  Lifters?

That carb is way to big. You don't need anything more then a 650 cfm. I run a 600cfm on my 318.

I've been researching a lot of the builds.  They all claim to get 400hp but I would like to see what these engines would do in a B body.  They obviously won't perform the same as an A body.  Are you running a stock 318?  How does it move? :popcrn:

Any mods to valves needed going this route?  Lifters?

Always use NEW matched Lifters with a NEW Cam,
and,
remember to use a Zinc Oil Additive in the Engine Oil, during NEW Camshaft Beak-in procedure.
Read up on Cam "break-in" at the Comp Cams website.

The 750 will work if setup properly.

Nothing wrong with the "we-18", even in a B Body for a FUN street engine.

By no means try this at home, but just for sh*ts a grins a buddy bored a "Truck" '68 318 (Mexican block?) .125 Over just to see if it would live...

to this very day it's still in a car running deep in the 7's, 8th mile...Very respectable for the 318...I couldn't believe the pistons weren't touching each other, but it works...

Thanks man!  That's exactly what I'm looking for!

Great info on the zinc additive.  Hadn't run by that one yet.

I have the same setup, (close) runs great in my 69 while im building my 440 .  I dont beleive the 650 holley is too big. never had a sp problem with mine. im also running HEI

Challenger340

I've had great luck running the Thermoquad Carbs on the stock 340/360 Manifolds on the 318 Engines, matched of course to the 360 Heads/Ports.

The TQ's with the 1 3/8" Primaries Venturis are usually good for around 750-800 cfm,
BUT,
they work well on the smaller engines (even with the Large cfm) due to the "progressive" Vacuum Secondaries, and the Carbs ability to only supply the full cfm as per Engine "Demand".

IMO :Twocents:
Just can't beat a TQ for the general Street Performance "Driver" type stuff.
Most overlooked Carb out there, if you can find a good working Unit, or can rebuild one for yourself, you won't be sorry.
