Found more pics of my old 70

My mom gave me an old scrapbook from back in the day and in it were six more pictures of my old '70 Charger I had forgotten about. The first four are pics I took of it in 1980 as it sat before I bought it. This must have been about September or so... If you look close you can see damage to the driver's side door and a good-sized ding in the decklid. I honestly don't remember there being damage on the decklid but hey, pics don't lie. Also, the reason the RF wheel being off and the fact that it's sitting on a piece of firewood is because the brakes on that corner had a strange habit of cutting a groove into the drum. I redid the front brakes with all new parts but a few years later it did the same thing; cut right through the drum and made two pieces like it was on a lathe. Never did figure out why it did that. Strange to think the car was only 10 years old when I bought it. It was not well taken care of obviously.

The first one here is right after I bought it and hauled it home. IIRC I paid $500 for it. This was also probably around Sept. or Oct. of 1980. At the time I was driving the 74 AMC Hornet on the left. The 2nd pic must have been shot in the summer of either 84 or 85 (pretty sure it was 84) after I painted it and got it running. I had gotten a job driving a water truck in the woods doing road construction and the Charger was my commuter car.

Isn't it fantastic with pictures like that, bringing back memories of "good old days". :2thumbs: I guess we are about the same age and I also
have some pics of my first cars, late -70 early -80. What happend to it? How long did you have it before you sold it and what did you buy then?

Excellent.

Love those slotted mags on the first ones. I had those too when I first bought the liz and like an idiot I let them go. Should never have done that. Still would have put my cragars on but it would have been nice to have those slotted mags to put back on when the mood strikes. Oh well

Wish I could have been lucky enough to be driving a charger around back in the 80's. Unfortunately all I had was a goofy little dodge colt 4 banger. Never again. lol

Maybe your tires were out of balance or something causing your brake issue? Just a thought

Those pic are all pretty sweet! Thanks for sharing :2thumbs:

I owned the car for 11 years. The "restoration" I did at the age of 14 was showing its age and I decided that it would be better off in the hands of someone else. Of course I should have kept it. Here's the thread from 3 1/2 years ago tellng how I found it again but the new owner refuses to send me any pics of it in its current condition, even after I sent him all the pics I had at the time. http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,14706.0.html Pisses me off because the guy obviously doesn't give a rip about the hobby; just himself. Anyway, I had started getting into the IH mode when I sold the Charger and had bought a '71 IH pickup followed by a '79 IH Scout and then a '73 IH Scout before getting back into Dodge with an '85 Ram pickup and then an '89 Dakota and so on.

About the slotted mags, I did like them but I had a thing against unilug wheels and those were unilug. I sold them to a guy a few years ahead of me in high school and we just about killed ourselves getting them off. The guy jacked up my car to take them off but he didn't do a very good job and just as we pulled the 2nd wheel off and moved out of the way the Charger fell off the jack and hit the floor. Ten seconds before that my legs had been under there. :o

Like I've said, I know the feeling oh so well. The second owner of my Charger won't even return my calls. :rotz:
